first try usingcheetah.jpg cat_01.jpg zspheres. i was going for a not much detailed model for a cat run animation, but i can´t stop modelling. damn zbrush addiction.

Looks like a cheetah! The back legs like a bit "S" curved to me (could be the angle).

Will be great once you sculpt muscles etc...

cool!

Buen comienzo abraxas.:tu: :tu: :tu:

lol !
I mean an animal model.

Fergus
01-20-06, 01:12 AM

Me gusta mucho :D

abraXas

Looks great so far! However a little bit of criticism if I might add. Some of the muscle definition that you've sculpted just doesnt feel very realistic partifularly in the rib area. I can't pinpoint it, but something is just not quite right.

Regardless, however this is an excellent model.

hi abraxas

difference between first and second posts....light and day!

remember tho that if you are animating and adding fur later you only need the muscle structure that's needed for movement in the animation. But that's not to say zb isn't fun to get lost in and learn more about anatomy either.

Great improvement and hope we get to see a little of the animation!

Hello! Good modelling! Can you explain, how do you do such smoothiness in modelling - it's perfect! Do you use only smooth brush or not?

abraXas
01-23-06, 05:15 AM
basically:

1- standard/inflat
2- pinch
3- smooth

all this with lots of vertex moving, to get a good shape instead of using nudge or add. it´s just a matter of trial and error, tryin low and high values in your transform tools, till you get the results you want.

Cool Cat! The animation is looking a tad stiff. Considering full speed the cat would throw it's hind paws almost in front of the shoulder while the front paws are almost touching the tail root. The back is bend like a bow, the whole animal is throwing everything into that motion. The back works like a bow and the extremities follow through the entire range of motion. Those are FAST 8-). AND they LIKE IT!
Lemo

This copy I found on the web is going into the direction I try to point out:
Your model can do that!

That look much better! You're getting there. If you take a close look at it, you can see that his back is curving in as if it would break soon. If you can, try and see if you can get it just the oposite way. You will instantly see the difference. Try to bend your back as far back as the cheeta's (under medical supervision please) and you also see what I am refering to ;-).

bas, you are right

bpmufx
02-09-06, 12:16 PM
I agree w Bas. However you need to be clear on the cadence you're after, If she's running full tilt, both head and tail tend to keep real still and on the same plane while the body bows within. I think these are the details that make an animal like this seem so incredible to watch. Really nice work.

AbraXas, this is getting pretty good. I noticed a few things if I might add them. The tail, especially the tip must be alive, it is not only the counterbalance of a cheetah, it is the rudder and is constantly in motion.

The latest animation improves the transition of power from rear to front, but, the front of the cheetah is lower to the ground and for directional control, especially the legs. The rear is where almost all the power comes from in extremely explosive bursts. All pivoting around the mide section of the body between hips and chest.

Everything moves in these animals, and I think you are possibly having trouble from the fact you are setting your animation up in a straight line. Cheetahs don't drag race. ;) Front and fore limbs almsot act independantly, guided and balanced by the tail, following the head which follows the prey.

Your current animation is rather rigid, and betetr exemplifies the structure of a horse or dog.

This is all meant as constructive to help improve, and in no way implys your work thus far isn't worth the effort. You can also toss it all this out, it's your animation. ;)

Jason, i´ve been usin this photo sequence of a running greyhound as my only visual reference, perhaps that explains about stiffness and straight running. if i´m getting improvement it´s due to all the good advices i,ve been receiving, like this one of yours. thx for ur time. i´ll try to give this kitty the hunter look he deserves.

Frenchy mon ami, sorry but i don´t know what u refer whit the bounce jump, can u explain a little bit? :p
