When I saw the thumbnail, I knew this was yours. I know it was intended as lighting practice (which is fabulous, BTW), but your efforts with perspective are always a treat.

Looks good - i have no good way to put lights yet - i guess i havent understood how they work.
For every image i do many many renders until im happy with them lights - i just dont know how to tweak them exactly like i want.

Good going :)

Wow! (squinting) what a great glow. Even the sharp edges of the wall material seem to be glowing. I think you're going to do wonders with the new lighting, whenever it comes.
Thanks also to Mr. Pilou for all the great links :tu:

Kaz, this is very interesting! I had no idea you could light a scene like this (I'm not the lighting type..)

I tried for a while and didn't manage to get the effect you got. Could you give a step-by-step? or even better, could you upload the scene so I can study it?

thanks in advance!

Great stuff Kaz! :) Lighting can create an awsome scene out of almost nothing, so I always love to see tips and experiments with lighting. :)

Here is the ZBR

A couple of notes:

:b4: A 3d plane using the colorize glow material was placed behind the window opening to create the glow effect.
:b4: Placing glow lights was easy: just open the Placement menu, click on the "P" button and drag out onto the canvas where you want the light. X and Y placement is a snap, but the Z placement was harder. I just played with the Z setting until I got what I want.
:b4: ZMode shadows was used for the main sun light, but not on the glow lights. The effect was lost when ZMode was enable for those.
:b4: No postwork, as you will see when you render it for yourself
:b4: 1.5 premiere, if that makes a difference...

What started off as a serious telescope design, turned into something else...just messing around. But the shapes and such work well for more lighting experiments.

:b4: 1 sun light medium intensity low ambient
:b4: 1 glow light placed in the center of the...thing...medium-high intensity.

:b4: ZMode shadows for both
:b4: 150 Rays / 40 aperture

Your lighting still remains a mystery to me. Yours look so perfect... Is the walls around your subject the secret?

Kaz you kick major buttage with that lighting. Very inspiring. I will download your zip and give it a look N see...I am lighting impaired at the moment but you definitely have a handle on it. btw..the telescope was readily identifiable til I saw the pipes coming out of it :) but I do the same thing to my pieces sometimes...but it was lookin good.. :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:
