View Full Version : Z2 Recorded Modeling Session. ( Format: Quicktime Movie, File Size: 14MB & 25MB )

Hi :)
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200405/user_image-1084791170aoz.jpg
This model started as a ZSphere mesh which was detailed to 1.5 million polygons. The entire session took less than couple hours and was
recorded to a ZScript. The ZScript was then cleaned and replayed while being recorded to a Quicktime movie. Hopefully, you'll find this
movie interesting :)
:b3: :b3: :b3: You may download this movie to your system by clicking here (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/movies/zclassroom/fish.mov.zip) :b3: :b3: :b3:
Note: There are 2 versions of this movie. One is the full-length version (28 minutes runtime, ~25MB) while the other is an abridged version (15 minutes runtime, ~14MB).

Thank you Pix...

Thx for sharing and lost your time for us, Pixolator.
Question : About cleaning the Script.
have you a magical hidden command to clean your script or is it necessary to go manually in the script to delete some part?
maybe you should think about using bittorrent to distribute such files in addition to the download. this way it would spread much faster...

ZScript would have been heaven, but I am not complaining. I love taking peeks at others methods and to crack your workflow open Pix is a plus in anyway shape or form (let alone being able to have and use Z2).

Both videos have been impossible to grab so far. They keep showing up as completed after only 100kb or so, resulting in an incomplete archive after 30 mins or so. On a fat T1 connection to boot.
Any other alternatives?

A question (as always). I am also interested in the red falloff of the model. I am guessing this is material based but it could also be lighting setup. ..I am not sure...

Hey Pixolator,
I think you should do more tutorials about ZBrush, you are like a "GOD" when it come to ZBrushing... A good software to make some video tutorial is Snagit for windows... it records your screen, even your voice... I makes pretty big .avi but after that you can then compress it using any package at your disposition... As a new user, i'd like to see the way you work, but also hear your explaination....
You are the best Pixolaor!!! :tu:
Please make more tutorial!!!

It was very enlightening to see another person working in Zbrush. The PDF manual and zscripts are fantastic for learning, but eventually you get to a point where watching a video like this is really the next logical step. It lets you see all those things you've spent all that time reading about actually put into practice and how they all work together as a whole. And not only that, it's good advertising to boot, lol. Thank you for this video. Hope to see more in the future. ;)

The Zscript is the more pedagocic method :)
And the format can easily more visible :D
And also maybe the size :D

I decided to try Shareaza to see if the large 25MB unabridged movie file was available on the P2P networks and it is. I then decided to set myself up as a download source and here are a couple of links you can use. One is ED2K (http://ed2k://|file|AnglerMovie_Full.zip|26324718|8d9ebba71320d8 2c57525a40636b3ba1|/) and the other is a Magnet (http://magnet:?xt=urn:bitprint:RT4RC2EOPLWWMQET7F64B6NQJM DAFJZM.R46I5DHSC4QTM6BH6J5PYQINQUNYFQ5GU6T2Y2Q&dn=AnglerMovie_Full.zip). Hopefully these will work if you have a P2P client, I'm not 100% sure what I'm doing (tried to figure out Bit Torrent too but couldn't wrap my head around it, too confusing). And hopefully Pixolator won't have a problem with me posting these alternate links. I figured the resources are there and I have some bandwidth just sitting idle, so we might as well use it, right? ;)
Edit: Hmm, seems the forum software added http:// to my links. Try copy/paste, and then remove the offending text.

Starting to download.... This may take some time, obviously a lot of interest in this (and no wonder).
Look forward to following this tonight...
I just wanted to say that I think that using Quicktime is a great way to show a session. The problem with a script is that you have to watch from start to finish and you can't back-track to re-watch a section over again. With QuickTime you can. Also, QuickTime is compatible with both PC and Macintosh.
Keep the QuickTime movies coming!
::next plz héhé it's great but i wan't more!

Seeing this video, i wonder something on the way pixolator work, at the last half of the video, is pixolator using a standard inflat brush or is zbrush able to paint with an alpha but without going in projection master ? something like this is possible or pixolator is just mastering very well the standar inflat tool ? looks like some time in the video he is painting multiple dot at one time but without being in projection master. hope this is possible, or will be possible one day :D

I'd totally agree with that statement. Quicktime was a good choice especially if your showing movies for multiple platforms. Nothing else looks good on a Mac accept for the newer .swf flash movies, but they don't expand to well either. Real, and the MS thing perform like crap on a Mac, and you cant enjoy your video experience because if you resize it the picture never holds up. I watched this in full screen, and it was awesome. Thanks again Pixolator. :)

Holy mother of God, watching this was amazing! :D Thanks Pixolator! And thank Mahlikus for the mirror!!! But the video left me with some doubts... as Atog007
said, at some point after the middle of the video Pixolator starts editing the mesh with a multi-point brush that seems like an alpha, while the std brush is seen selected in the bottom of the screen. Was that Projection Master at work or just plain old "ninjutsu??" :p Also, how can I get the brushes down there, bellow the canvas?? That surelly is better than having to go to the menu or docking the bar on the sides...
But anyway, amazing modelling! :tu: :tu: :tu:
EDIT: Ok, forget about those questions... I figured it out :)
Pixolater, Why not a FTP server for the download ore upload...

Thankyou for reposting Juice, saved my sannity! Was slow going there for awile.
Except for the eyeball I think it is all done as live modeling. You can clearly see symetrical effects going on during a lot of the medium texturing right after the first half of the movie.
Try using some focal shift and noise on your brush curve and see if that doesn't look like what he is doing.
Here is an inadequate little script showing what I mean:
PixFishtxt.zip (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200407/user_file-1085014521cas.zip)
I bet this is very, very nice ... but when I try to download it, my baud rate is 0.0.
:(
Don't worry, you are not really missing anything.
It's just a hi rez sphere where I think the effect that Pixolator gets for his texturing can be had by flattening out the brush with with focal shift and then add some noise, say around .3 or so.
A large brush with a lower resolution model just gets shaped. A higher rez model with a smaller brush shows all kinds of cool surface roughening.
I'll be putting a fish up in the Monday night challenge wherein I truly discovered that 384Meg isn't really enough ram for a 1 Meg poly fish. Still was kinda doable though.

Thanks, Mike for the mirror. I could't get it from pixologic yesterday, but I did get it from you in a minute or so. :tu:
Hi Pix
Could you explain how you get the brush controls for (Focal Shift...pinch) at the bottom
of the screen. And thanks for the vid.
and please explain how you pout another sphere (eye) inside the z brush fish or projected onto it?????
Hi nlloyd: All you have to do is hold down the Ctrl key and drag the element to the bottom shelf. Because that shelf does not have anything in it by default, it won't be highlighted in orange right away when you drag elements around. But when you move an element to the very bottom of the screen below the canvas, the shelf will turn orange to let you know that you can place something there. Please see the Customizing ZBrush part of the Practical Guide for more information about customizing your interface.
Junk: Placing the sphere eye was done with Projection Master. I'd recommend that you view the Sword ZScript included with ZBrush. To do this, launch Projection Master and press the ? button in its panel. Then choose part 5: Projecting Mesh Displacements to learn this powerful technique.
Also, more than one person has asked how the dots were added to the mesh. This was done in 3D Edit mode. A very small brush size was used, along with fast brush strokes. The fast strokes cause the editing brush to "skip" a bit, producing a dotted effect.

my fish is too low res obj to sculpt high res dectail, and some other thing are not exactly like i see.
i miss some passages, probably, then i ask if there is a link to zscript, to see exactly every step.
i try to search on this thread but i not find, someone could help me?

I have some specific questions regarding this video.... I have been watching it in slow motion to see how exactly the model was created. So far I have already hit 3 instances where I'm not sure how pix did what he did.
1) 0:27 - It seems as though he is creating additional ZSpheres in the link between two ZSpheres without manually clicking on them. How is he doing that?
2) 1:18 - On several occasions I have seen him scale a ZSphere on the end of the model without having it affect its link. This is a good example. When I scale a ZSphere on the tip, for example, the entire link from the previous ZSphere expands along with it.
3) 1:28 - He is working on the ZSpheres at the tailfin and somehow "ghosts" them. Which appears to give a different look to the base geometry when you go to Preview mode. I have no idea what this is or how it was done. (?)
Thanks for any answers
Hmm...of course I am 8 months late downloading this, but Pix posted it on my birthday. Would have been a nice present to watch even back then, but still just as good now. And of course, I missed the bandwidth clog...yea!
I haven't actually watched it yet, so this post is a bit premature and contains no comments on the actual movie, but coming from Pix, I have not doubt that it is going to be amazing.
Is there supposed to be sound on this movie - it looks very interesting but I can't hear anything (same with the other movie) - quicktime is always so buggy om windows, is it possible to have it in another format (wmv??) please

hi...i wanted to ask.how did u put the eyes without exiting edit mode and making them 'one' with the main tool
I am pretty sure that this movie is a zscript playback, and scripts don’t show going into or out of projection master, and that’s what he did to do the eyes, it just doesn’t show it because its a mov of a zscript
