Yeah I saw that before at CG, very cool. I bet you spent maaaaany hours on that one. I wish I had that king of patience.
For a moment I thought the background was done in Vue 5 Infinite, but after taking a closer look it looks like maybe it's a painting or an image backdrop.

awesome job man!
one critique, i think, anyway, thor could use some more work, his pose is not very strong, perhaps have him yelling. the Valkyrie as well could use the same yelling pose, like a battle charge.

That is too wonderful.

Cool!
Am I seeing things or does that horse have four front legs?
So many adjectives, and nobody's called it "spectacular"?
That can't be a good sign, dude.
(I'm kidding, of course. Nobody used the word because they all skipped your text and saw only the picture. Which is a good sign!)
Lots of great detail, and you picked the right subject matter. There is some strangeness in the character faces, but I'm not one to criticize (being of strange face myself).

Aminuts: Wodan's (Odin's) horse has eight legs yes :)
Very cool piece. :tu: :tu: I like it very much.
(This is also a very 'Christmassy' piece, though unintended maybe...
you can trace back Santa Claus to Wodan.;) )

Absolutely incredible my friend!!!!I love nordic mitology so I must say that I love it.
Only two things to say,for the historical (not technical) aspect...Thor should have more facial hair and Mjollnir should be much more bigger than the hammer that you've made. But this is a technical chose and all is in your hands in a work that shows your personal thinking...Maybe a bigger hammer could be disturbing for the scene...so great work man!!!:tu: :tu: :tu: :D
One question now,the woman is a Valkirie or a goddess like Freya Sif etc....?
After this I've finished with critics and questions and must give you with extreme pleasure 5 STARS!!!

well, since there seems to be some moderator time involved and this is all new to me, ill reply and it ll areive when it does lol. anyways i know i should have dine more expressiveness to the faces..the time limit hammered me down, thanx
-WOODY-the background is a matte painting..my computer doesnt have that kind of power lol
jazzbird thanx mate
slocik well i was still mostly learnin back then... max to z workflow is great..except when the exporter messes up the uvs..then it s frustrating.now im doin better
neuroticgothguy, i know what u mean, the thing was the deadline was so close that i really had no time to do all thet i wanted.
aminuts yep and four hindlegs
Ctrl-Z thjanx man:D
Bimm the Stone hahaha..just replace gungnir with a bag of presents eh? hahaha
MattHHH i know man..thats my curse..i changed the whole concept in the middle of the contest there, i started with some scene like evangelion..destroyin the city and went nordic lol. thats supposed to be a valkyrie
This Cgtalk- "spectacular"challenge keeps producing spectacular images indeed !
At this pace we will have a Cgtalk toprow very soon :D
Aquilar,if you have time, i would be great to see the parts you did in Zbrush !

Great work. :tu:
neb, spectacular :P
you cant realy see it but the horse have 8 legs.
sup marcus, aminuts, jantim, everyone :)
Stunning work, indeed. I love the fact than Sleipnir (Odinīs Horse) has eight legs, as well as the twin raven (is he one -eyed? :D ). The only crit i could do are these "·$&* horns in the helmets - no viking at all -.
Anyway, i like the work very much.

I saw this on the CG board and thought it was absolutely fantastic. Can you show us what you did in Zbrush specifically? Great work here, very pleasant to look at. Closeups perhaps? :)

hehe okaay so thats how it works i was wondering how my replies aint showin up..it takes some time..okay
well. here are some things that i learned while making this work
1 allways keep everything low poly while workin , it will help with the unwrap
2 unwrap just has to be good , no need for some perfection, apply a map, unwrap and RELAX!!! that the key to good texturing all u need to texture in z is a relaxed uv layout, then import to z and go nuts in the projection master. trust me a good unwrap makes a world of difference, and helps in editing and works much better upon export import. i know that many dreadupon the mentioning of the word unwrap, but unwraping a lo poly character for z modeling and texturing is a 100 times easier that doing it for standard texturing.

that's awesome, one of the most worked stills I've ever seen. The middle guy doesn't look as convincing as the rest but it's anatomy is great. I wish you have good luck, you deserve it.
hey cool stuff mate, i really liked you entry, best of luck and congratulations!!
aquilar,
This looks like it would make a cool poster. The composition has good balance! The characters looks like they were a lot of fun to make. I'd be interested if you did any pre-vis work before starting the whole project.

Can you elaborate how you go from the poly in blue to the very detailed design of the face? Perhaps a tutorial for us if you find the time, i'd love to see your workflow or even a zsrcript if you are willing to share.
Thanks again and good luck!
