View Full Version : Pyroclastic Flow On A clear Day
This image was done as an experiment using only the SprayBrush for the main image. The sky was done with the simple and smudge brushes with zadd off. The brush size of the spraybrush was 3-5.

Id have to say that Im really impressed with this one. Seriously, this is one of your better pieces.
Thanks for your kind comments. I like to experiment, I guess that is the researcher in me. Negative results can aid learning as much as positive ones.
FC and I, have been fooling around with the SprayBrush, this image is just a continuation of those experiments. I guess I should have posted it in that thread but just did not think of it at the time of posting, and when folks began replying it was too late to move it and put it there.
Nicely done. :tu: :tu: :tu:

Debs and DS, you would not believe me but there is something a bit uncanny about this image. To me, the more you look at it the more you see, the foliage appears to move and you can almost feel the ash falling and landing on the wall and the top of the trees.
When it was created, I just did it as an exercise, but after Debs and DS's comments I went back and took a long look at it, and I have to agree that it does have a tendency to grow on you.
Thanks for your insite. It is greatly appreciated.

you definitely got a realistic ash look there Joe..with recent events I canimagine why... :( So the ash flows and is not just blown into the sky? Kind of like a mud flow or something? I know the after affects of it from the photos, and I take it that stuff is hot also? Here is also where more of my ignorance arises, ash is caused from stuff being burned up right, so what did the volcano use for fuel to produce the bi product of ash? Or am I lookin at this the wrong way....but at any rate besides my personal lack of knowledge I really like the image Joe :tu: :tu: :tu:

I guess we've got that spray-baby under control between us, then. I think it's worked very well in this image. Well done.

FC, after another image using this method I will let you know. So far I like it, one reason being that only both of us so far as we know, have posted anything on this technique.
Ron, rocks are burnt into the ash, it has been known to ground planes as far away as Colombia SA. Usally the Pyroclastic flows are composed of extreamly hot gases, ash, and boulders, which move down the mountain sides at speeds over 200 mph. Just the surge from one of these passing by has burnt houses completely. The ash usually remains hot for weeks, so it is very slow cooling. A lot of pumice is also blown out with these flows, and are often used in hydroponic gardening. I hope that helps.
DeeVee,
Joe
