Hello,

after a long time I finally started a new wip - a candlestick.

As always, I used ZBrush and 3dsmax (with finalRender).

Hope you like it.

Here is the first test-render:

Thanks for your comment, Logick.

Here is a improved version. Modelling is now mostly finished.
Next I'll add some textures, but I'm not sure which material I should choose (copper, silver or even gold).
I'm open to any suggestions...

I would like to vote for a nice aged ivory and silver combo but I am a bit nuts.;)

Another nice model to add to your very fine collection. I enjoy the detail you put into them and thoroughly appreciate the time and effort it takes for you to create them. I still want to encourage your one day putting them in some kind of scene to show them all off!!

Keep going! I await your updates!

Ja, don't listen to him. I'd opt for gold and rosewood. But then, I'm nuts to...

Hello and thanks for the suggestions.

I played a bit with the materials and have now three versions for you to choose from. I hope you like one of them ;).

well not diggin the copper at all. If you could tarnish that silver up some I would vote for that. The gold is nice too and a bit less spec on it should make it perfect.

It's your project...which one do you like?

I truly like the last one. A tad more noise on the white material and it would look really cool.

The white base is definately too stark against the rest. I'd actually try a marble or something more textural to compliment the rest. I like the look of copper on it but the texture was looking muddy. It needs contrast. The tarnish would help like Aminuts said. Also some more bright highlights would do it as well. With copper you can get really deep tarnish in the recesses then lighter colors at the top where wear from touching takes off the dead stuff. Tricky with a normal shader. There are shaders out there for some packages that do a nice job of adding textures to recesses. Sometimes you can mimic this with specularity and diffusion. Let the overall be tarnished but broaden the specularity so you get a nice big highlight on the rounded bits. Takes a little trial and error but you can sometimes get the same kind of look at least from one angle. It's all just tweaking. Nice work and a nice render.

aminuts: I like the gold version. I think I will continue to work on it.

lemonnado: I also prefer the last one. The white material is not finished - it will be some kind of marble...

Belseth: Thanks for your tips. Of course the white base will not stay this way -
this are only the first test-renders. Sorry I didn't mention it before :o .
