I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if this is the way sheres work. It seems that when I skin the model that the Zspheres skin wider in one direction then they do in the other. I have put 2 pictures up to show what I mean. It seems that in the side view the Zspheres skin wide enough and then in the top view the skin looks kind of thin to me, I have tried to scale the Zsphere but it gets fater in the side view and not as wide in the top view. Any thoughts.

I'm not that skilled with them yet, so im not sure If I can help you. However I appears you are using the Low-poly skinning (Adaptive) method. If I were you I would try the 'Unified' skinning. The button is located a few buttons up from the Adaptive Button.

Not sure if this helps however I figured it was worth a shot.

That's a very astute question, dfaris -- and it looks like you're really mastering those skins, they're nice and even with no buckles or twists.

I'm guessing that you resized your model at some point using the Scale tool (outside of Edit mode) -- using the Gyro to stretch the model in only one direction.

Even though this transformation doesn't change the shape of each ZSphere, ZBrush remembers the transformation when it generates the skin. Since your model had been stretched in one direction, the polygons in the skin are stretched in that direction too.

Here's a quick example of what I mean ...

The two views at the top show the model without any transformations applied; the two on the bottom show the model after I used the Gyro to make the model taller.

Hope this clears it up,
dave

OK Davey

I dont remember if I scaled the model or not but I will check it out.

Very interesting ZSpheres work. Are you going to use it in a project or are you just getting aquainted? :tu: :tu: :tu:

Both,

After I gut use to this I will use it in a project. Then I will try to export a low poly model to a different program and try to animate it.

But I have a log way to go still trying to get use to the ZSphere thing

Dfaris -

I don't know if you were in IRC chat the other night when I was having the exact same problem with a hand I had thrown together. As Davey said, I was scaling and rotating out of edit mode - force of habit from editing in 1.23b.

Mentat pointed out that moving out of edit mode like I was doing would distort the skin.

I went back and re-did the model, being sure not to leave edit mode, and it skinned as I expected it to.
