been a bit taken with this latest attempt at 3D cartooning. I decided to go with ZBrush as the modeling and texturing part, Carrara as the compostiting and rendering part.

First up is a animation of a mermaid. Been working on the background. Here's an experiment using ZBrush for the model and texture, rendered using just a spot light in Carrara:

I exported the model as a OBJ. When I did the texture, it defaulted to AUV Tiles. I opened the BMP that was created by the export, saved it as a TIFF file and you know what, Carrara had no problem with it. I imported the OBJ using the default settings, except I made it conver the obj as One Object.

Here's a rendered large size of the first frame of my test animation:

I really like how "painterly" it kinda looks like.

Here's the link to the 10sec quicktime movie:

I'll be checking back here tomorrow, after I model the Mermaid -- full name: Bernedette Opal.

Lemme know what you think. Since this latest work by me wouldn't have been posssible without ZBrush, I think it's okay to post here.

later,

Nice post. I Like the second one very much, lovely composition. :tu:

Out of interest - what version of Carrara do you use? I won version 1 in a competition some years back now but abandoned it due to recurring bugs despite the update patch.

I'd be interested to hear your opinions especially if you are using version 2.

Hey boozy Floozy --

thanks for the comments.

I'm using Carrara 2.1 ( the update is on Eovia's website) And compared to 1.x day and night -- 2.1 is very stable and in the process of doing this animation it didn't crash once; was using it for well over 6 hours!

btw, I'm using mac ox X 10.2.4 fwiw.

Oh, forgot to mention that the kelp was created using ZSpheres. membranes are a god-send. It only took me about a half-hour to create it.
