View Full Version : Mapping problem...help!
I would really love to know how can a person map this texture or any like it seamlessly to a model...is it possible, if so, post a quick demo and explain how?, I'm going crazy! :(

You need to make the image seamless to start with. Best way is to use OffSet filter in Photoshop, and then use the clone brush to make the image match well at the seams.

http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1030594596xcf.jpg - This is the same image after a few minuets with the clone, and smudge brush. Still some work needed obviously, but you should get the idea.
The easiest thing is to make your texture seamless in the first place!
First, fill the center of the canvas with whatever you want your texture to be. Leave the edges untouched.
Second comes the ZBrush magic. If you hold down the tilde (~) key in ZBrush, then click and drag on the canvas you have the same effect as Photoshop's Offset filter. The image will scroll as you drage, and what goes off one side will come back on the other. Bring one of the edges to the center.
Paint the new center, removing the edge, and still being careful to stay away from the new outer edges.
Tilde-scroll again to bring the last remaining area into the center and paint it.
Now you can use the MRGBZGrabber with autocrop turned off to capture the entire canvas as a new seamless texture!
You can use the same technique that Mark described above in ZBrush, as well. Import your texture and resize your document to match. Then fill the layer. Next, use the tilde-scroll method to do the offset and use ZBrush's Clone, Smudge and Blur brushes to fix the seams. Finally, use the MRGBZGrabber to get your texture from the canvas.
Thanks Mark,
That does kinda clear it up, however, isn't there a way to do it in Zbrush, the image I'm working at the moment I want to be 100% Zbrush.
Surely there must be a way to wrap those types on textures seamlessly in Zbrush?

---EDIT---
Now that clears up my question 100%
Thanks Aurick, I was typing out the above while you were answering me...lol

P.S. is it possible that you could do a script, doing the above?
Here is a quick script with a couple of different methods of getting a texture image onto a model. It helps to have a seamless texture, which can be done in Zbrush or PS, but it isn't necessary. Turn on Show actions to see what is being clicked.

And here is how to make a seamless texture in ZB

Hope this helps
Thanks Ken, :)
You guys are excellent at helping!
A special thanks to Mark though, coz if it wasn't for him...I wouldn't have won my copy of Zbrush, hence, I wouldn't be zeeing! :D
