hi everyone :)

this is my first post on z brush central. i am relatively new to 3d (started 3d early this year at VFS) and i am really new to Zbrush (started a couple weeks ago). This is my the first model for my demo reel, i used Zbrush for all the subtle details via bump map. the model is gray shaded with coloured eyes and mouth (might do a colour map after i finish my second model)

please let me know what you guys think :)

cheers

Very nice Steven! I like your muscles definitions and the proportion of the character looks pretty real. Also the texturing details look very nicely done.
Im wondering if you like to sculpt or like to make clay maquettes?

Also another question: What other programs did you use or you use for this project other than zbrush if so?

Ok man keep it up!

Javi.

Man, only a couple of weeks, darn, you are very talented!
I've been doing 3D for 12 years, And I've seen lots of crazy good artist, but this man, is the most I've seen in terms of Anatomy study as well as concept, and the overall is amazing, you have a very bright career ahead of you man!

:tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:

You rock!
Maybe you could post a little tuts on your modeling workflow and detailing workflow!

Cheers!

Awesome model, I like the sagging type skin under the front legs and tummy. The anatomy looks very good and dead on for a big cat. Great job, would be great if you finished texturing the color:tu:

Have to agree ....anatomy is pretty sweet. Dang I might be 90 before I can do that.....take that talent of yours and run with it!! Have you done sculpting?

Really hope ya give coloring this up a go....would be a nice topping to a really great model and would really bring it out. Are ya gonna animate him? Looks like he could fly outta anywhere and rip a few hearts out.:D

hEY Steve, really love this model, the concept, and the att to detail, simply awsome. I like the hair on his back, but maybe you should also have some on his tail, looks kinda bare down there, and if your going to keep it in grey, you should totally run with that hair, and give him wiskers and other sprouts of hair here and there.(just a suggestion)

Tiny crit the veins on the back of his leg look like they just end, and dont fade off, other than that this model rocks.;)

This is one of those rare models that even on a still image appears to 'move'. The modelling, pose...well ok everything is spot on so how can I not give it 5 stars? My only advice would be that this is one hell of an act to follow. I really can't wait to see a fully textured and lit render of this.

I humbly give you my 5 stars.

this is the concept work i did for this model, alot of things have changed due to the drawings 2d cheats.

these are the wires, i did this model as a high poly model since i was really inspired by the High Poly Modeling Tutorial.

http://www.vfs.com/~3d55steven/9.jpg

as for the colour map, quite a few people told me that with the grey shaded look shows of the details better, so i really dont know if i will texture it, but my next model will diffinately be fully textured :)

3d55Steven,
It's always so inspiring to see some one with your artistic talent come into the world of 3D. I didn't see in the replies about what your future plans are with this Beasty. You've taken the best characteristics of the Saber Tooth and the Wargs of Lord of the Rings, plus something a little human in the face.... Anyway, well done. I gotta see this guy in action!

Holy Canolies! That is one exquisite design!! The anatomy is just SOOO beautifully done. That's one of the finest creatures I've seen modeled in Z-Brush.

Did you start out with Z-Spheres or did you do a base mesh in Maya and then bring that into Z-Brush. Either way, he's a beauty.

5 Stars

Very nice work. Very solid anatomy and a great dynamic pose. The mid stride just nails it : ) Its awesome to see the concept sketch as well.

I tend to agree that gray shading shows off a sculpt much better than a textured view.
Again, really nice work!

That model is very awesome great detail and you said the detail isn't displacement only bump? What sorta computers are they running at VFS. Unless you were running on yer own computer. How many divisions did you put the model through in zbrush to get the detail. When I try to detail a head I can only get to 5 divisions and then my computer craps out.

-Ryan3d yo Ryan!!! hows work goin??? wish i can find a job asap after school finishes :) my MSN is newt_13@hotmail.com, keep in touch!

-Dickie cheers man, i did the mash in XSI, i am a beginer in Zbrush, bump map is the only thing i know how to create in ZB, hopefully i will get good at the program in the fututre.

-Cas NYC you got pm :)

-Scott Spencer i modeled him in a neutral pose than did a crappy rigg for it, after i posed it i fixed a little bit of the modeling mainly around the "wing" thinggy inbetween the legs.

-twindragon, aminuts hmmm.........i usually subd the model up to around 1million polys and build my bump map with the mash.

I was just watching that DVD last night in bed! (Well a clinical insomniac has to find something constructive to do during the. early hours) So what did I think of it? Well as people in this thread are interested in it I'll give you my veiws on it.

One thing think it's important to say is that this isn't a blow by blow 'this is how to make a hyper realistic model' video. This is more about concepts behind it, and to be quite frank nearly all the info in it can be found quite easily online, so bear this in mind before you buy. This is not a 'how to' video. It was filmed at one of the sigraph's so if you were there (I wasn't) then you've probably already seen this lecture in it's entirity.

Any chance of a screenshot of the base mesh you used from XSI mate? Again I think you've done a fab job on this and look forward to your next one.

-Darth Wayne i totally agree with you, the thing that really strikes me is the mentality of the way he models, it is defnately not a step by step "how to" tutorial. I have some wirefram on page 3, i have also included a screen cap of the shade mode model in this post.

-argonaut my impression on VFS is a decent school with really hard working students. Since this is the first and only 3d school i have been to, i would recommanded to my friends who want to get into 3d.

Well..nice looks...but somehow i doubt it would ever make a succesful glide in the air ;)...its way too heavy in the front and the structures of the legs wont work either...and the skin would have to go all the way down to paws behind...but thats just from a realistic point of view :E...but if its part of Alice In Wonderland its all good :)

Just been to see your WIP beast and it is wonderful, it is also, as it is with nothing added to it the exact beast I would like to use as a Thurron Hound in my latest writings on http://www.diddilydeedot.zoomshare.com/ This is called the Dragon Lords and it is a trilogy of short books I have written and decided to place on the website. I am not an artist but I love looking and when I spotted this I thought. "Oh wow, a Thurron Hound". My websites are non profit making and contain a multitude of things. there is Seligor's Castle and Diddilydeedot's Dreamland, which are my childrens sites. then the Dragon Lords which is for teenages upwards. and then the proverbial "My Spaces which has a mixture of everyting on it.
So I am sending you this email to ask can I use your model of the WIP Beast and can I call it a Thurron Hound please. They live on the small planet of Alconnia and are a native species. very, larg and vicious and brilliant.
That's me I will leave it to you to reply to me.
Thank you very much Seligor, Prince of Chirron. Alias Dodie Milnes Sinclair. xx
