View Full Version : The best way to
I'm looking for a way to make these ridges I cant seem to find a way to make them and keep the surface after the ridge smooth. This is an imported tool and I need to make these ridges that only go part way around the model. Here is a drawing fo what I mean.

I have been trying with masking but I cant get the ridge part correct because it needs to slope up from the ridge before it.

Try using edgeloops.

i havent tryed it properly for my self but the nudge tool looks perfect for things like that
3DAlien,
I will try the nudge again I messed with all ready and did not get what I wanted.
aminuts,
Edge loops will not work because the model is imported from C4D and if I start sticking in edge loops it will mess up the mesh when I export it back out to C4D. I might be able to try the morph target but again the mesh on the imported model does not flow like you are thinking. The pic I posted only shows part of the model.
Dfaris, Pixolator had a nice idea a while back.
Use the move too to make the big ridges. Make sure the brush is smallish and turn down the z-intensity to a samller value (10 maybe).
Then just run the tool over the edge gently.
It will pull the goemetry in a small sheetlike shape towards you. THEN paint the smaller ridges into the model with projectionmaster...Should do the trick...

I am a bit confused as I do not know where to find the Move Tool
The Move tool on the main menu..like this:

This works nice for sliding a surface along itself...let us know how it's working...

I'm not sure what you are trying to say with the move tool but that moves the mesh and the size determines how much of the mesh will be moved. so I can get a ridge but it wont be smooth. Here is a pic and you can see what I'm trying to do. I do have an idea i'm going to work on tonight and will let you know how it works if you would like to know.

like on doing fingernails....you may try masking off a ridge, inverse the mask, Inflat then use the Move tool to move the mesh over the masked area. Do that a ridge at a time...I was doing a script for you a sec ago and crashed my z...I tend to do that sometimes...but it was working pretty good...I think this is along the lines of what Dickie was explaining....good luck dfaris...look forward to seeing this creature leg or arm in action..good sketch too.
ron
Ron,
Hows it going? Yeah that is what I was going to try but then I will smooth out the end where the next ridge starts before I mask and inflate it.
That shot is part of a head not an arm or leg, lol but I had to cut most of the head out for other reasons. Not sure if I will be able to show the model when its done I will have to check. I will be doing some work on it in a few mins.
Oh that sketch is not mine its a screen grab from a pdf.

combinando draw standard & pinch se obtiene
algo asi..

can you record a quick script of how exactly to make those, jotajota?

using primitives and deformations etc...dunno what the little creature on top is but he just kinda happened...anyhoo...here is the script of these quickies ....if this helps kewl, if not...it was still fun to make :)

Those are great guys but I'm using an imported mesh so some of those options wont work. Anyway I pretty much got what I was looking for by using a few different methods. Here is a pic, still have some smoothing to do and a bunch of normal sculpting but you get the idea.
On a side note how do you taper your brush stroke if your using a tablet, ie if I use the standard brush and want to make a stroke that starts out adding bulk to the mesh and tapers off so that its not adding bulk? Oh forget it I found it.
