An experiment. A landscape, complete with sea and waves, was generated using Fractal ViZion Elite (http://www.geocities.com/Soho/Lofts/5601).

The original magenta hue of the land was colourised to a more natural shade using Paint Shop Pro. No other changes were made to this or the water. As the sky area was already completely black, it was imported into ZBrush as a transparent texture and mapped onto a 3D plane over a separate sky layer. The initially rather featureless linear slope of the horizon line was broken up by adding irregular rocks with the depth brush, and a large hill created in a similar fashion over a few scattered initial cubes. Vegetation was added to the slopes using the spray stroke and the fibre brush. Finally a few birds were added using PSP.

This freeware program has further potential for use with ZBrush and other graphics programs that I have ony just begin to investigate (only downloaded yesterday). To illustrate the versatility of the program, the following abstract leaf shape was also generated with FVE. The only modification (with PSP, not ZBrush in this instance) was to change the colors from all magenta shades with black and white to the present hues and texture. Although no ZBrush was involved in this image, I thought people might be interested to see a radically different output from it that indicates its suitablility for generating textures for use in Z. The present image for instance would make a passable texture for a style approaching an art deco vase.

Flycatcher, this is beautiful! Very interesting technique and I'll have to go download that program and play with it.

Thanks for the tip. :D

The second one is very cool-shows alot of potential for experimentation.

Natures' mathematical basis put to great graphic use Monsieur F/C!! Very nice!

I have a whole pile of 3D 'things' I did from fractals that I rendered in Bryce, and I had a great time...Maybe I should get into it again, seeing these two, and as a major Art Nouveau fan, I would strongly urge you to try that as an Alpha and colour map, on a 3D profile vase, and amaze both yourself and us! ;) :D

I've seen some amazing stuff recently created with XenoDream (3D Fractals).

Fantastic :ex: I will have to try that program. :) :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:

Thanks for the comments everyone - I'm glad you found it interesting and hope you will enjoy the new toy.

Jim: I agree about XenoDream. However that is commercial software, Fractal ViZion is free.

SC: You persuaded me - I should really have done it with the first post anyway, but didn't have time then. Here's my attempt at Art Nouveau pottery using the fractal texture on a couple of 3D Sweep Profile vases and a bowl modelled from a sphere with radial symmetry I created this afternoon.

Great work FC. I went to the link you gave but it appears as if they have moved or something because I could not get through. I would live to try that program.
DeeVee,
Joe.

Thanks again, guys.

My apologies fro the broken link, DeeVee and any others who have tried it. :( I got to it by a search, then chose a European mirror site for my download, but couldn't remember the address. So I used the link given in the Help file of the program itself - apparently now out of date. If I get time later on, I'll have another dig around and post a good link either tonight or more likely tommorow night (my time).

Joe, I think maybe there was a temporary problem with the web site; anyway I just got through to the home page (http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Lofts/5601/) a few minutes ago.

In case you have further problems this is the main download site (http://www.eclectasy.com/twg/default.html) with a URL mirror site (http://fractals.iuta.u-bordeaux.fr/terry/) (the one I used) or an FTP download site (ftp://fractals.iuta.u-bordeaux.fr/twggfa).

It's version 1.21e, the E standing for Elite, which is the true colour graphics version.

Out of interest, I got the link from a site that Boozie Floozie posted some time ago, Freaking Fractals Fried my Brain (http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/Fractal_Software.html).

Good landscape FC, in particular I like the sky. Also, very nice vase designs, how much are they going for? :D :tu: :tu: :tu:

Thanks for the link Frenchy, I'd missed this one. I do have another cellular automata program somewhere, but it isn't very impressive; this looks much better. Looks like another interesting little toy to play with. :D

Love the landscape and the vases. I checked out the info you posted and found a treasure trove of eye candy. It inspired me to create this image,(based on one of the fractals I saw). Thanks again for the new direction. Great Idea! :tu: http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1033097100eup.jpg

That makes a fine setting for a lovely gem, Belleski - I love the way the facets catch the light. Glad you're enjoying the trip. :tu: :D :tu:
