View Full Version : Vespian Diety
Hi all,
I took an old model that I had done in Max some years ago (based on a Douglas Wayne Barlow drawing) and decided to Z it up. Here's the progress so far. I ran into a couple of problems and I was wondering if anyone else has had similar issues. I UV mapped the model in MAX 8, took it into Zbrush, and brought it back into MAX. Random UV faces seem to be missing on the imported OBJ from ZBrush. Any ideas?
Thanks,
SeanE

Can't answer your question....but that forehead kinda reminds me of a huge vagina...don't know if I can say that inhere.
If not...the moderators will have to edit my post.
Ii's well done :tu: but it also makes me laugh LOL no offense though!
Now I would like to have said: "keep it up", but in this case...;)
Have fun

Haha, thanks for the feedback. You see what you want to see i guess.

All I can say is that I saw that too. My unwrap done with MAX seems to be wrong once I imported the model under ZBrush.
I saw somewhere that MAX2OBJ could be the problem itself because it re-write the vertices' names... Dunno.
Bye !
Well, if anyone has more info on this problem I would love to hear about it.
Can't wait to see where you take this.

Lookin' good so far, love to see it finished up! And who wouldn't want a vagina on their forehead :p
Did a little searching to see if I could find what was going on with the UV's, but didn't find anything (i'm sure i'll hit that hurdle when I get to that point)

the material and texture looks excellent.
and I would have to agree, even before I read anything on the thread I thought it looked like a vagina monster.

Ahhh yeah! you cant go wrong with Barlowe!!! Nice render, this looks like it could really come togther into a stellar creature. I am a sucker for Barlowe designs too, especially his Inferno ones.
Keep updating this one!

I reexported the base mesh out of 3DSMAX using the triangles option instead of quads and my mapping stayed intact when I brought the OBJ back in from ZBRUSH.

I enjoy the latest version the most, I would suggest a few shades of slightly different hues a bit all around the face. excellent job.

Keep on going Sean no matter what they/we say ;) You're on the right track! I agree with Dty5731, the last one looks very good!

Will this be a stand alone model or part of a compilated scene? Liking the texture work and the shader is handling the lighting beautifully.

Dty5731 - thanks for the kind words, I'm having a good time with it
Yainderidoo - thanks man
Chaz - I'm working on a full scene and composition
I started messing with projection master and Zapplink. Wow! The various brushes and tools in ZBrush just amaze me. Some excellent work Pixologic.

I've realized that my texture and materials were dominating the form of the model and the form was getting lost. So I tweaked the SSS shader a bit more, toned down the main diffuse texture and added a couple of textures to the underlying skin layers. I wanted the character to be ancient looking with years on him.
Here's the result:

The heads coming along so far! I agree with you in that the greener head the forms are getting a little lost in the texture. This one also looks a little more 'plastic' like than the last one (with the texture changes is looking really good!).
I actually like your previous one also (maybe because the forms are more defined? I dunno, it looks more wizened as well: the light areas almost seem like areas of his face where the skin has been worn more by time and the elements):

<ack!> You can't tease like this and leave us hanging. I'm soooo looking forward to seeing more. Get that little one of yours working on the background while you finish the diety. I've got mine working on texture maps.
:p
