gradient mask ?

Is there a way to apply a gradient to a hand painted mask? I'm trying to figure out a way to apply a gradient to a pretty complex hand painted mask. Can this be done or do I need to use some other app to do it?

aurick posted a mini tutorial on this ....do a search on Aurick....can't remember if he put it here or in the trouble shooting forum but either way a search will turn it up.
