View Full Version : Ken's Cactus Tutorial
Ok I was doing Ken's tut (Thanks Ken!) and the cactus came out great! Then I exported the tool (obj) and imported into Cinema4D. Bang!! I lost all those cool ridges. Went back to ZBrush and made sure that I exported the correct tool.
Is there a way to retain the ridges?
I can't tell you for sure, but the ridge effect is caused by smoothing, or rather reversed smoothing, so I don't think it can be exported.
You will loose the ridge effect when you export, since it has to do with the smoothing routines in ZB.
However, you can recreate or reproduce this in other packages by playing with the smoothing angle settings in there. Here is the exported catcus in Lightwave. Much like in the tutorial, I divided the mesh, and lowered the smoothing angle. Not quite as dramatic as ZB, so, experimentation is in order.

Thanks for the help.
Ken,
I tried your suggestions and got similar results in Cinema4D. It just looks better in ZBrush.
I guess I really am going to have to break down and learn how to texture and create a scene in ZBrush.
