What I love about your work, Ed, is that even from the thumbnail, I know it's one of your models/works. It's always a pleasure seeing your stuff, Bro.. :)

Thanks peoples
Here is something I started a few years back, but never finished......I decided to finish it, so I have added some work to it, however I do not have a reference to work off, the one I have is 250 miles away. In this instance i need a reference pic..... for colour and some nuances I know I am missing. I searched the net, but to no avail....there is a kind of uncoloured version about, but not the one I want. If anyone knows where this version of Frank is to be found on the net, do tell.... thanks.
As soon as I finish this I shall begin a few art promises I have made

Frazetta was my single greatest influence. Motion in stills. I've tried to always show such natural motion in animation for my entire career. I'm drooling over my collection of his work at this very moment... :))

Yep Jason an exceptional artist.....
The gesture/movement in this (copy of Frazetta) done as a rough for the power within, in a series of warriors I did many moons ago. I never used the rough I only used it to get the feel of the warrior.
A wonderful example of Frazetta...for motion.
Mine as I say was a rough...never destined to be finished....

Great work ed! I'm a huge fan of Frazetta, and I too use to try and do studies from his work. If you have any more, please share, because I love it!
Ahhhh, Frank Frazetta...he, Roger Dean and monster baseball cards were my first art influences...I bought a couple of Frank's books as a kid and would spend hours sketching
Frank's paintings...One hell of an artist...Now I gotta dig out my Frazetta books...

I have no more studies of Frazetta, I seldom copy.
However I will try a copy of Franks portrait.
I figure I will be totally psychotic at the end of it and the mouse will be dead.
I don't like computer art.....it takes too long, but I figure I might learn something here, so I will give myself 4 hours. I don't really know if I can do this on the computer. I shall soon find out. In my most optimistic belief....I forsee total failure.
This is the beginning.....horrible ain't it?
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200407/user_image-1089537405cql.jpg
Four hours are up....well it could be done, but I only have the one lifetime..... I can't be bothered wasting anymore time. I shall complete it my way sometime. I won't even bother posting the result. Copying the features easy.....getting the colour right that's another story. I shall return to acrylic paints and brushes....faster and easier.

Hey ed_the_atom, it's a shame you feel that way. As art is art, no matter the medium or the process - it is all about creativity. I have several friends (some internationally acclaimed) as well as myself that can no longer use many traditional mediums anymore. Severe health isuues - accumulated over time, and we have all moved digitally with exceptioonal results. After all it's just a tool, one's ability and creativity are not affected by the tool.
Not trying to raise a fuss, just trying to point out the futility of disliking a medium or approach to art.
50's Kid - Yoda had an answer for you in the 'Empre Strikes Back' ;))
I really enjoy seeing people's drawings as much as paintings and 3d work on this site. So much creativity that helps everyone look at things anew and I would hope inspire greater things.

Hi Ed
If I understand you make your digital work with a Mouse !!!
If yes, you are some masochist :)
Try the pen graphic like a Wacom :)
But sure you are not oblige and retake the traditional tools, but for show it us here just make a little scan at the end ;)
And if you try the free ArtRage (http://www.ambientdesign.com/artrage.html) prog you can easily make the portrait of Frank in 5 minutes in your style!
With copy under or not
It's your choise!
With a graphic pen it's very easy to interpretate your favorite painter!
Yes it's maybe not true art with "A", but sensation of art for anybody accessible
Pilou
Ps Belec has right : only creativity is important!
And pleasure to make it
Pss Of course you can make the same of Artrage with Zbrush (with the system of layers by Aurick
(just the oil painting effect will be not exactly the same but possible too)

Hi FP
yep I am a masochist :)
The mouse does drive me crazy, especially when I need line 4 pixels and below. (well any line for that matter).
Jason, yes I understand your point.
I was refering to the process more than the art. While some works are fast, others are painfully slow. Impetus and spontaneity are lost (for me anyway). I sounded very general I must admit. The Frazetta the traditional way would have taken a max of 4 hours for me.....probably less.
Thanks for the info FP. As for placing a copy on a layer underneath a copy I might undertake,,,,,for me defeats the purpose of copying.... the challenge and learning diminish. Anyone can trace something.

Hi Ed
So you take the hard way
It's your choice
Pilou
Ps I was in "le Louvre" some days ago
There was a lot of painters who "copy" the great Masters with the traditional tools brushes, pencils...
With the modern digital tools you can make the same, very more quickly and with the same learning but with a "graphic pen"
You keep the "hand moving"!
Ask marcel who draw with a Cintiq what is his point of view :)
Pss Not at the same size, I am agree, a monitor is some little for some paintings :D

Ahh the Louvre......you lucky person.
I downloaded Artrage...I shall try what you suggest.... Frenchy :)

I am not sure that Artrage with a mouse should be very easy! :)
But happy ArtRaging in any case!
