View Full Version : MaterialPack 2 - Now Available
Materials_NoiseSample_Main.jpg
Back by popular demand! :)
This MaterialPack contains 100 materials and an easy-view browsing ZScript that lets you see more materials at once than was possible with the original MaterialPack .
A ZBrush material is created by modifying its sub-shaders. The types of shaders that a material is composed of determine the type of material that can be created. ZBrush materials have 1 to 4 sub-shaders in various configurations, and some of the materials that are included in the MaterialPack have shader combinations that are not available in the default ZBrush material library. (For example, some materials are using double noise generators.)

:b3: :b3: :b3: Click here to download the MaterialPack 2 plugin (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/Plugins/MaterialPack2.zip) :b3: :b3: :b3:
:: The zip file contains the MaterialPack 2 plugin with all necessary files and is 3+ MB in size (due to the large number of included materials).
:: The MaterialPack2Data folder contains 202 (two hundred and two) files.
:: After extracting the zip file, the MaterialPack2.zsc and MaterialPack2Data folder should be placed in your ZStartup\ZPlugs folder.
After placing the plugin and its data folder into your ZStartup\ZPlugs folder, the plugin will be loaded automatically every time you run ZBrush. Simply click the MaterialPack2 button which will be found at the bottom of the Materials palette. Like other ZBrush interface items, you can place this button anywhere on the Shelf for even easier access.
To select a material, simply click on its thumbnail in the preview window. The new material will replace whatever material was selected at the time that you activate the plugin. If that material was already in use on the canvas, the canvas will automatically update with the new material.
To see more materials in the library, simply click the Page 1 and Page 2 buttons in the MaterialPack panel.

I think its the viewer that is new, the materials are all the same... Viewing and picking from the new 50-at-a-time-viewer makes choosing new materials very fast! Cool.
Oh Boy! Thanks for the update :tu::tu:

The best utility for a long time. it's been a long time coming.
It has certainly been a very sad sight as I have tried to struggle with the old material pack in Zb2. It usually entailed viewing 100 psd thumnails in an image view while trying to match up the numbers on the material. But this didn't transfer the colour information.

If anyone could be so kind...
Hi, Mattybyng here, I was just viewing your collection of materials, and have also downloaded them :D they're fantastic.
But I am also interested in making some of my own materials for personal use, I have constantly tried to similar effects to your materials.
But I can't.
Do you rekon you could post tutorials or give some guidence on making materials....?

matty....check out the zbclassroom...there is a pdf on materials that should get you on your way to understanding them better. Also if you had downloaded zb 1.55 demo to try out zbrush it came with a manual that explains materials as well.

 Hi all.
Thanks so much Aurick, for a beautiful upgrade.
Me, I have been using the old variant as a plugin, activated by
Shift-M.
This one is better, since it views much more materials in the same window.
Only, going into the Material pallete and then descending down to see the knob to open the Pack takes more time, than if one could use Shift-some letter of the keyboard.
Please, could you arrange this very plugin so that the window with materials opens by combination of keys?
Thanks again.

Anatom,
Open your defaultzscript.txt (located in the ZScripts folder) in a text editor and add this line :
[ISetHotkey,Material:MatPack:MaterialPack2,365]
Be sure to put it before the [PD] (which should be the last command). Save the file and restart ZBrush. You should now be able to launch the new Material Pack with the hotkey SHIFT+M.
Note: although you can use this method for assigning hotkeys to many ZBrush buttons the button must 'exist' on start up for it to work. In other words, if a button only exists when (for example) you have a polymesh in edit mode then there will be an error. The numerical value for the hotkey is got from pressing the key combination on the keyboard and noting the 'View Keyboard Status' slider in Preferences>Utilities.
Oh thank you so terribly much dear Marcus!
I did what's been advised and all worked at once.
I do just hope this plugin will function in newer versions of Zbrush.
And I am definite all Zbrush folks will prefer
Shift-M keys to spread the Material Pack!
This addition will help to mitigate the nervous breakdown when awaiting the next Zbrush!
:D

:( hmm I put it in my startup dir but it does not show up :(
It doesn't go in the ZStartup folder. It goes in ZStartup\ZPlugs. If you don't have a ZPlugs folder, create one.

try reunzipping it in the startup/zplugs folder....it's possible you missed a file if you just moved it.
and you need to look in the materials menu...that is where you will find it.
Seems like Pixelsoul did not organize the materials within a separate Directory but poured in all of them into Zplug.

I'm getting an error upon attempting to unzip the download using Stuffit Expander 10.0 on the Mac. Anyone else having problems?
(EDIT)I used the built-in BOMArchiveHelper instead. Worked fine. Stuffit expander is little buggy, I guess.

when you unzip it ...it unzips to material pack folder...if I remember correctly.....it is the items inside that folder that need to be in the zstartup/zplugs folder so you might need to move the contents of that folder to the zplugs folder.
If i remember right it had one extra folder and that's why it's not showing up. the zsc files need to be in the zplugs not the material pack folder.....hope I am making sense.
All sorted, thanks for that!

Thanks :tu: Is there a way to add more mat files to this :qu:
I'm using OSX 10.4, the folder __MACOSX contains an empty folder titled MaterialPack2Data, I'm terribly confused! What do I do???
This is an awsome plug in thanks
ok i unzipped the pack and i looked in my D:\Program Files\Pixologic\ZBrush2\ZData folder to see that i dont have a folder called Zplugs so i created one and dropped the materialpack2data and the materialpack2.zsc into it and then i start up zbrush to find that i have no new materilas whats wrong?
Svengali

Read the instructions again... you'll first need to delete what you just loaded including the Zplugs folder and load everything instead in the
D:\Program Files\Pixologic\ZBrush2\ZStartUp\ZPlugs folder
(You'll probably have to create a new ZPlugs folder in \ZStartup)
Rule is you NEVER put anything in the ZBrush2\Zdata folder... that's for official ZBrush files only.
Sven
thanx very much for the reply i managed to figure it out i was looking in the wrong location within the program itslef to find the new materials silly me oh well thanx again

hi. I'm a zbrush newbie. I do not have a ZPlugs folder in my STartup folder ...
so i created the folder ... the button materialpack2 at the bottom of the material palette appears but it launches a window with empty thumbnails.
I found a ZPlugs folder in the Zdatra folder instead but the result is the same.
I know that i can reach single materials by just locating the zmt in the load material (with thumbnail also) so it's not a huge problem but i'd like to use this plug in its full functionality. thanks in advance.

Infidel .. go back to post #42 in this thread and work forwards from there. If still stuck, please post screen-shots of your ZStartUp > ZPlugs folder, the top few lines of the MaterialPack2Data folder (which should be a sub-folder of the ZPlugs folder above) and remove anything you've added to the ZBrush2 > ZData (and its sub-folders). But be careful with the latter.

guys this works with z 3.1?
Reactor

Just extract the materials into your Zmaterials folder. You only need the materials and the .psd thumbnails. Then, load them as you need them.

I want to ask the same question as wckedsunny (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/member.php?u=54957) did: does this work with zb 3.1? It doesn't seem to work... vbmenu_register("postmenu_384779", true);
musca_ro

Actually I discovered that this works with 3.1 as well. You just have to go to material in the upper menu. I docked the material pallette to have quick access to it and the plugin works this way. I have the button there. So for those with ZB 3.1 try this way... Happy zbrushing :)
