What you are seeing is edge aliasing.

The best way to remove it is to create your image at twice the desired size and then scale it down after your final render.

If you are using v1.51, you can press Ctrl+0 to resize it in ZBrush before exporting.

This technique gives you crisp edges every time.

or try to set up the antialiasing parameter. :)

That can happen if you use the snapshot button to place your object. Most times it is perfectly acceptable to use the snapshot button but if you get non-smoothed areas, like in your picture, you should just choose another tool instead of snapshotting your object. When you choose another tool your object is automatically dropped to the canvas and smoothing is applied.

Another solution would be to change the Hdivide and Vdivide in the Initialise panel, although you must do that before starting modelling. Also, the divide button in the deformation section might help if you already started modelling.

The reason it can happen if you use the snapshot button is that while you are transforming an object the subdivision smoothing is not taking place. For example, if you enter edit mode and click on the canvas you will see how smoothing goes away so that you can more easily see the polygons for editing. When you release the mouse again, the object smooths so that you can see the results.

The key is to use the Snapshot button when smoothing is active.

Your suggestion to switch to another tool works fine, too, because that drops the object (which always activates smoothing in the process). However, when you want to draw multiple instances of the same object the snapshot button is a huge time saver.

Well, since they have answered your question I will offer this.

You can still save/fix this image.
All you have to do is take the blur brush and make sure that ZADD is the only thing on. No Material or RBG. Set the intensity to an amount of 15 to 35 (you'll have to test it. Set the draw size to about 35 or 40 so you can 'heal' the pixols in a swipe or two. Then just go over the model with the brush and it will smooth it out.

I find that in order to get the antialiasing effect, you need to set the depth cue buttons in the render options.
