View Full Version : BUMP MAPPING (I'm now so happy)
Hi everyone, I was having serious difficulty with bump mapping and some of my images seemed plain dead without it, so tonight I dedicated my time to try and figure it all out, and I did (finely) now I can make some nice pics!
Here's my result after playing around for 3 hours: http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1037320891ifj.jpg
Hell, with a little more practice, things should starting looking more *real* in no time :D
Tips and comments welcome!

way to go, I just decided that I was going to start experimenting with stuff too, and in a couple of nights I seem to have gained a good understanding of alphas, fog and shading. Experimenting is how you get better after all!

Excellent. You got some great reflections there too. Are the rocks 3d?
Hi KenH, actually, those rocks that you see there are just a plain3d wall, with a texture applied, then the same texture was turned into a black & white image, then loaded into the alpha palette, then I used the alpha to mask the whole plain, and then applied inflate 100 and bam, realistic looking *3D* rocks :D
Here are the steps:
:b3: 1. Find a good texture.
:b3: 2. Make a copy of the texture and make it Black & White.
:b3: 3. select the plain3d tool and draw on the canvas.
:b3: 4. go into edit mode.
:b3: 5. load the first (color) texture into the texture palette.
:b3: 6. load the B&W texture into the Alpha palette.
:b3: 7. go to Tools, Modifiers, Selection and select *ALP*
:b3: 8. then go to Modifiers and inflate 100 (or less, depending on the result)
:b3: 9. clear the mask and enjoy! ;)

Mr. Z,
You can skip steps 2 and 6! :)
When you load your picture into the Texture palette, just press the Make Alpha button to get your picture into the Alpha palette. Then you can press ALP in the Tools:Modifiers:Selection section.
And another possible shortcut is to skip the Make Alpha entirely! Just load the picture into the Texture palette and then press INT in Tools:Modifiers:Selection to get a mask from the Texture Intensity. This produces a mask that is 'almost' the same as what would have been produced by the longer method.
Hope this helps! :tu:
