Hello!

I just wanted to say "Thank You" to all of you for Z-Brush Central.

The Forum is SO friendly, and makes one feel welcome, even when you are so overwhelmed by this powerful app that you don't know where to begin.

The few posts I've looked at with Images are so intimidating, yet SO inspirational, that I vacillate between bemoaning my sad looking rock tutorial, and tackling the tut yet once more in the hopes of (someday!) being able to do a full image in Z-Brush!

Thank you again!

My only suggestion for this Site, is to have a little button somewhere for us "wet behind the ears" Newbies, that haven't a clue of how to start with this thing. (The Manual is pretty easily laid out, but doesn't exacly inspire one...) The button should link to the wonderful Newbie tips on the Quicklinks page....That would really help those stumbling in the dark who find this site...
Someday, I'll at least post my rocks....hopefully...

Which leads me to a stupid question....how do you delete an Alpha you made that looks like crap? (bad rock tut result #4...)

If you look at the top of the screen your post is on, the top right, you'll see the button you're looking for. Have fun, and rest assured, people here are glad to help...

Welcome C-Mad. I'm still fairly new myself and everyone here is great! Can't wait to see a picture from you. Right underneath the button for either post new topic or post reply is a link called QuickLinks. There's tons of useful tips there.

ola, C-Mad and welcome! :D

rock tut? i’m not sure if i know what you mean... anyway, i’ll give it a try: if you are unhappy with an alpha the best way i can think of is to make a new one. this loads into the alphapalette automatically and becomes the active one as soon as mrgbz-grabbed. if you were happy with the result to a certain point try to go back there by doing the command-z-move (or document - undos) until you are there. if this is not what you were asking for - sorry :D let me know if it helped!

BTW: i think your suggestion for an own newbies-start-here-button is great :D

Hi C, welcome to ZBC! :)
Is it perhaps Kurisu's tut you're doing?
About the alphas, you cannot really delete them. You can, however, click on the big alpha picture, which will then show thumbnails of all alphas, then click the appropriate alpha, and it will be hidden or shown from the palette. Also, if you restart ZBrush it will clear it.

Another way to help shrink the number of alphas that are visible in the Alpha palette is to click the little "R" at the top right of the palette. This restores the palette to have just the original alphas. Your others will still be there in the selection screen, but they won't be cluttering your valuable desktop real estate.

Incidentally, the same tip works for many of the other palettes (like Tool and Materials).

Hi all!
Thank you SO much for making me feel like part of the "family" so quickly!

Pixologic needs to come up with an "UN-Create" for bad alphas and such. Although it is nice to "hide" them from the palette, it's no good to keep them on the hard drive if they are unwanted or unneeded. This is where the "delete" function is REALLY needed!

On the Creative front, I can finally make an eyeball consistantly (Easy as the tut is, I still had a heck of a time!)....now to learn how to sculpt.....

To all who post their creations, Thanks for the inspirations!

Welcome to ZBrushCentral C-Mad :)

One more detail to add to the excellent replies above… The alphas that you create and do not save will be removed when you exit ZBrush. In your next ZBrush session, the alpha list will be restored to its default state.

As for "wet behind the ears” newbies tutorials… Please keep a list of the tutorials that you find most useful to you in this stage. When you feel that you have passed the initial learning stage, email the list to Zuzu (verna@pixologic.com). Your list, coupled with similar lists from other new-users will be helpful in determining which of the available tutorials should be recommended to new ZBrush users.

C-Mad, you're right, this place is very newbie friendly, glad I was pointed here last week. Lots of help from folks and lots of encouragement.

Pixolator, I'll be sure to put together my tutorial A list.

Confusious say:

"Newbie is state of mind, and state of time. All are Newbie once." :D

I remember my first visit.

Dude, I just opened a ZBrush Newbie Site (http://zbrush.cjb.net/). Check it out and tell me what you think. (I need some direction).

It has a wee pop up (traffic-tracker) on it that I'll keep on it for a month, just to see any where my traffic is comming from (42% from ZPlace)

Also check out all the links in my signature below.
Good to meet you. Just keep asking questions!!
Upham. :)
