Welcome rstew526
This superb tutorial by Antropus will give you some clues on using zspheres to create initial indentations in your mesh for areas such as eyes and mouth as well as creating useful edge loop geometry around these areas to help you model the forms of the face.

From your example it looks like you may also need to lower your zintensity (9-12 is a good setting) on the Edit brush and build up the forms with a lighter touch.
On this page you will find a highly instructive head modeling session of Shrek created by Grub which demonstrates clearly methods of stroking with your editing tool tool to build up form, as well as other techniques some of which like using zspheres as a point of creation, are also demonstrated in the post by Antropus. :http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=23481&page=3
You'll also find other fine examples in this thread which may be of help.
