Hi folks! I have been offline for what seems like ages, but I finally have my new computer and am up & running! I have been working on making and using my own textures. I thought it was about time to try something new.

Deligtfuly light and airy piece, Donna - I love the way you've done the facets on the crystal ball. :tu: :tu:

Thanks folks for the nice welcome back and the kind comments on my work.
Flycatcher, I truly wish I could take credit for the crystal ball, but I am afraid I didn't create it myself. I forgot to note that I got the tool from 3D Lapidary for computer artists (http://www.3dlapidary.com/) The specific tool used is called ROSE. Maybe someday I will be able to do this myself but not yet... The rest of the piece is all mine though!

You've just saved me some time, Donna! I thought it was some clever low-poly thing you'd done that I was going to have to try to unravel how. Oh well, it looks very nice anyhow and fits in well with the rest of the bright, sparkly composition. :tu: :)
hello northstar - you have got a nice image.
may be the crystal you could do in zbrush just by taking a sphere, than turn off h-and v-smooting. initialise with something like 9 h-divide and 7 v-divide. then pic a gelshader and a color of you choice. ..the holder you could do with zspheres and z-rotation mirrored with count 8. hope this helps for future projects.

Thanks kokoro, actually I did the holder myself using zspheres and then modelling it a bit to make the shape more the way I wanted it.
But I will give your suggestion with the globe a try & see how it comes out.

Funnily enough, Kokoro, Stonecutter suggested the same thing to me in a private message last night. Unfortunately as he pointed out the facets (at least those other than at the poles of the sphere) come out rectangular, which is not a natural cut for most gems.
oh i did not knew that of the non rectangular shape. so my suggestion is not good.
sorry northstar, did not mean to offend you by suggesting how to do the folder. i just got it wrong.

Kokoro, no problem and don't worry I am not offended at all. The whole idea of this forum is for people to share their ideas and experiments with others. Sometimes they workout and sometimes they don't. But that's OK.
:)
