View Full Version : ZBrush Designs
I do not know how many members of this forum use Z to do jewelry designs or any other design for that matter. I have been using it to do rough designs for my jewelry work. The advantage of Z is that if a 3d image is needed it can also be done. Below is an example.I made a wax model cast it in gold and then inlayed Black Coral. http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1007737679dny.jpg http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1007737794xjt.jpg

there you go deevee, now youve done it.. you woke up kathy.. lol..i love this fish.. maybe you can show us what you did ....
This is really nice, and also an interesting use of ZBrush. I've only designed and produced pewter jewelry, nothing to match yours. It's lovely.
Dave.
Thanks folks, as soon as I get some time I will try to do a ZScript. As you can imagine this is my busy timeof year with one of a kind pieces. By the way this piece is reversable, the other side is all gold, so you get two pendants in one. I will upload the other side later.
The finished product was posted today to a VERY,VERY, SPECIAL LADY. I certainly hope she likes it.

This is the other side. http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1007743489oqh.jpg
I can't say that I enjoy looking at anything made out of Black Coral, I am suprised that there is any left in your neck of the woods.
But the "pixol" Black Coral is very nicely done.
I the words of the rich lady in "Ace Ventura", "I see nothing wrong in enjoying the FRrrrruits of Nature!"
DeeVEE, I am breathless. This is such work of art...

Great idea for design work, DeeVee! I've been thinking of using it to design carvings lately myself, and now I'll have to jump in!
(Maybe we should have a Lapidary thread?)
:tu:  :tu:
By the way, DeeVee, did you know you can bend black coral using slow heating?

Wow --you's sell a million O' those in the flesh---I mean Metal !! Awsully Totem !!!--er Totally Awesome I mean !!!
Digits, thanks for the comment. I often wondered if you saw anything I did.
When I was Director of Agriculture, I got the Black Coral from the fishermen who got it caught in their nets. It was already detached from where ever it was growing. I got enough to last me for my lifetime. I had a law passed that it should not be taken in Cayman waters. You can photograph it but you cannot remove it from our reefs. Unfortunately, it is still widely harvested in Central America and the Pacific. One of the largest culprits is an American Company who operate out of Hawaii, called Maui Divers, they use a mini sub to harvest it,they have been doing so for 25-30 years. The Coral I have is more than 25-30 years old. Our reefs are still full of it, come on a diving vacation and see for yourself.

Hey DeeVee, thanks for mentioning 'Maui Divers'...I know about their evil work! When I was on Crooked Island in the Bahamas, the problem was 'bleach fishing' and it tore me up what was happening to the reefs. As a human resident of the planet, thank you for that law! :tu: :tu: :tu:
You're one of the good guys!
Some one asked for a ZScript on how I designed the Rock Beauty,This is it. Very simple. of course you can use any color that pleases you.
Stonecutter I soak it in acetic acid and after a while it becomes very plyable, that way you can bend it.

Deevee, I am most relieved to hear the story of your black coral, and I would love to shake your hand sometime for being instrumental in getting it protected in the Caymans. Bravo! Some "Fruits of Nature" deserve to be left right where they are so that our kids, grandkids and beyond can enjoy them.
And yes you are in paradise, I certainly miss the sound of the waves crashing on the reef on moonlit night. Even on a moonless night in Roatan you could still see by starlight reflecting on white sand. I miss it :)

Thanks for the tip, DeeVee! I've done spiral springs with it, by fastening one end down and using a torch to soften it a bit at a time as I wind it around a mandrel...
Today I received a FedEx package containing GORGEOUS pieces of jewelry.
One in particular is featured in this thread. The pictures DO NOT do it justice in the least.
The detail, weight, balance and beauty of this design is the best I've seen. I'm SO EXCITED to be able to wear this tonight at my husband's Company Christmas party!!!
DeeVee has so much talent with jewelry. You must visit is gallery here:
