My 1st head, Need help, WIP

ok, im new to zbrush, and new to 3d modeling, i have done a little 3d in c4d before, but not much, and i have started modeling a head, but i have messed soemthing up, everytime i got to model it further, it creats a tool instead? why cant a edit it? and could any1 point me in the direct of a good ear and skin material zscript or tutorial? thanks, o and here is the pic so far, yes i no its rubbish, but any constructive comments plz?http://xs42.xs.to/pics/05331/Head-2.gif

Do all the exersices. There is no easier way to learn that I have been able to find.

ok i maniged to carry on with it, and here it is so far,
