It's been a very long while since I posted. I was browsing the forum yesterday and, seeing so many terrific things from the people who post here, I was put to shame and cried like a baby for a few hours. Eventually, I pulled myself together and decided to attempt something myself. Since I am working on a model in Silo, I detached the head, tweaked it and imported it in Zbrush, just for fun... and I got carried away.
Quite a few hours and a quarter of a billion projections later . Here is the result as well as a wireframe of the head in Silo and some ZBrush WIP.

Hope you'll like it.

(and to SouthernGFX: "Thanks for your help big lad, I owe you a pint!")

I was unable to upload to ZBC so images are stored somewhere else. Hope that will work.

Thanks for your nice comments guys. I'm surprised no one mentionned the fact that the guy has rubbish eyes... Reason was I was too lazy.
Had a bad time today trying to fit them in properly, but finally here they are.

I can't get the fibers to render nicely so the guy has no eyebrowse in the end
and I think he'll stay like that.

Oh and Yes Vlad it's been rendered in ZBrush.

i think i will get really angry if i don't see it in the top row..
only one little little flaw, i think the tattoo borders are too blurry..
however.. six stars (or more) for me!!

Very nice work. Inspiring too. The eyes really pulled it together.
I am feeling like you too, I really need to sit down with Zbrush and give it a go.

Thanks guys.

As a matter of fact. I've been struggling quite hard to put the eyes in their sockets... Is there any tutorial available to do something similar ?

... only one little little flaw, i think the tattoo borders are too blurry... You're perfectly right. I initially started by making them very crisp but it did feel wrong somehow. I wanted the tattoos to look like original Ta Moko (traditional Maori tattooing) because I love that culture a lot. Originally, the Mokos were scarified (literally, which gives also a slightly bumpy aspect to the skin, kinda like scars) into the skin by using some specific bird's bones (can't remember which bird though) and vegetal oil dyes. Over the years, when the traditional Mokos age, the dye tends to sink deeper into the hypodermic areas to create that kind of slight diffusion (kinda the same as bad prison tattoos done with razor blades and other crap).
Modern tattos applied with a coil gun, if done properly, don't age that way because the chiseling itself is much more superficial and the ink is trapped in the derm above hypoderm and I should learn to shut my mouth.

I could go on forever and I should just shut up because people will think I'm a retard. :p

So yes, pinkarman, you're right, but that was by choice :)

I love tattos and I love maori culture, don't hit me...

Bolek, i thought that was a Maori tattoo, once i saw a photo of a Maori warrior with a similar tattoo on the whole face..

..and he had also a very funny kind of nosering that was made of two spirals that each one came out of one naris!!

You mean like that? :

Well, FYI, this is called a moustache. :D

No, seriously, I see what you mean. I didn't see the picture you're talking about but that must have been something like bone carvings... They made a lot of jewelry with it.

Sorry for the bad joke:o

Can you post the material ?

But when you use multi markers, you cannot change the geometry of the different meshes untill you make it one polymesh right ?

Isn't there a way to change the geometry of the cavity to make it fit for the eyeball ?

Considering that everybody seems to like the results, I find myself very stimulated :)

I definitely will be posting here more often in the future then. I've actually decided to go for a "world tour of traditional tattoing" series...

I think next one (I've already started actually) will be trad. Japan style...

I'll keep you posted guys and thanks again for all your nice feedback. :D
