View Full Version : importing stuff
i was wondering, if there's any way to *permanently* import alphas, and textures, (maybe tools and materials even, for the registered ones)?
because there are imgs that i never use in the default kit, and there are some, that i must reload for every session.
would be really nice to have the possibility to define sets of textures and/or brushes for specific tasks too, same goes for materials, i guess.
Hi el_pix
No I'm afraid you can't in the current version, though it is a good idea!. Though we do have a wish-list here that you can post ONE wish for the creator of ZBrush to ponder over for upgrade features.

Upham :)
For my part, I keep alphas and textures in the ZExportImport folder. Here's how I have mine laid out, if it helps anyone:
:b4: ZExportImport
:b3: Alphas
:b2: Misc
:b2: Natural
:b2: Industrial
:b2: Skin
:b2: Textile
:b3: Finished Images
:b3: Object Files
:b2: Morph Targets
:b2: Poser to ZBrush
:b2: ZBrush to Poser
:b3: Textures
:b2: Animal
:b2: Eyes
:b2: Mineral
:b2: Miscellaneous
:b2: Vegetable
:b3: WIP
I don't know if anyone else would find it useful, but it does allow me to very quickly find practically anything I'm looking for.
hey aurick, thats about the same structure i'm using to get my texture library at least a little organized. the sad thing is, that this lib must be shared between max, xsi, pshop, dpaint and some other programs, that all want to use their own explicit paths, so its not exactly nice to always start browsing from zbrush's in/out folder, but well, that's what favourites are for, no?
the only detail that's driving me nuts is, that of course all my files (must be about 2.000) are saved as .jpg ... *sigh*

El Pix, thanx for bringing up this topic, and to Aurick, thanx Matthew for inspiring a New Years resolution to organize my Z-File system more logically! :tu:  :tu:
Boy you said a mouthful that time Stonecutter. What a great idea-I don't have a clue to half of the stuff in Z-Files and they are bulging.
I keep all my textures in their own folder system. It's not in any apps explicit path.
Software is not a perfect science. (ask my programmer husband) They can't make everybody happy.
You could always purchase a media manager application. Set up preferences to make texture browsing automatic to it's path.
Just a thought.
One trick I do is make a shortcut-icon of the ZBrush folder and make copies of that shortcut icon and place it in the default loading/saveing draws of other apps and the root draw of my C, d, e partitions, and also in the Windows Start Menu. Then when in Max or DPaint (deluxe paint?? - old Amiga app :D ) you can go straight to the ZBrush folder you want quickly. I also keep a shortcut-icon in my ZBrush draw to a Backup folder which I fill up and burn to CD when full.
I've asked if we could change the default load/save draws within ZBrush previously, but the shortcuts give far more speed if you place several shortcuts to different places on your HD.
Helpful???
Upham :)
helpful indeed! never thought of using shortcuts within folders to change my paths quickly, guess i'll have to make excessive use of that :D
thx a lot, nice trick!
