View Full Version : Dragons Gold (Version 2 included)
This is a sample of a much larger image that I am creating, I put this together to check the lighting and colours, I find my images look more like paintings than 3D, or maybe somewhere in the middle. Please if you have any suggestions to how you can keep your images looking 3D I would be greatful.

This is great work. I like the details, like the individual coins laying (or is lying?) around. Good stuff.

way kewl image nonetheless though....I have that problem too...might be the materials we use ...did you use the material master thing on this image? or was that texture master..hmmm anyways...those scripts included where pix makes some 3d stuff has some good basic techniques...and though it seems kinds long to watch I watch it over and over and take notes on what he was doing while creating ....very enlightening

I would suggest turning your 'Ambient' setting down in the lighting palette...The materials have their own ambience, and too much brightness can wash out the 3D...
You can always boost ambience for your materials gradually to bring them up to where you want them to be... :)
Also moving the location of your 'lightbulb' lights can emphasize the 3 dimensional nature of your models, depending on placement...

hey, this image looks great so far. can't wait till you finish it. it'll be increadible, i'm sure.
to make your image look more 3D, you might try more gradual color changes on your dragon. the contrast between the black shadows and the red skin is rather strong. just a suggestion. hope you get it looking the way you want it to.

P.S. try messing w/ the lights and materials, like Stonecutter said.

Well done image --I like the 'painting' like effect you get--when you get the total 3D results you're looking for --dont abandon this style completely --it's real nice :tu: :tu:
Okay this is version two, and thanks to you lot it looks more three dimensional, and less like a painting.
I took away ambience on materials and lighting in order to get better shaddows, I also reduced the contrast that I had used on the dragon and relied more on the actual lighting, I also changed the material for the dragon, using a material with two levels of modifiers I used a texture as an intefearence pattern to get the scale effect (one of the standard materials was near enough already set, with this texture selected, it just needed some tweaking).
Thank you Fellow Zbrushers! :tu: ;) http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1011135135djr.jpg

hey arran, great job....I have to say it's not a matter of which one is better to me...coz I love the painted look...but I also like the altered more 3d one as well...but as far as you were talking, it looks like you corrected the problem as you saw it and got all 3d on that varment..outstanding images...both of them :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:
The help you receive on this forum is just super. I like both of your images but if I had to pick one, I would go for the upgrade.
