Hey,

Last week I posted an image that utilized fog for some special effects. I was still into exploring what else you could do with the fog channels, so I did a couple more quick experiments, shown here.

The smoke stacks where made up these elements, all made in ZB.

1. the objects
2. the fog texture image
3. the fog alpha

There was also a background sky, obviously.

Any self-respecting graveyard will have some spooky fog, but with some fog alpha play, you can get that extra special "ground fog" that can only come from the finest dry ice machines.

All of this has a similar feel to using layers with masks in programs such as PhotoShop, but with the added Z depths and adjustments. It seems fog can be used for different effects, so if anybody else comes up with uses for it, be sure and post them!

Ken, this is the best fog effect i've seen in ZB for awhile now...

how did you make the ground fog in the graveyart pic? (im toying around on paper with a concept skech for a pencile/charcoal drawing and possibly a Zbrush project and with this kind of fog it could come out real nice..)

anyhow, good work!! :tu:

Some great examples Ken. I love fog and the way you can get it to envelop things in the canvas. I often use fog almost like another layer using a texture it is great stuff!

Those smokestacks are especially eye popping . Super Impressive!

I usually use fog twice within my landscape scenes. The first time I use it on my sky layer with all of the other layers turned off and bake that layer. The second time is with a different alpha and other settings for the final render, which plays with the first time for some startling effects.

I'm going to bookmark this thread, as a referance guide to using fog - something I've not used at all. Thanks, Ken, for the experimentation. :tu: :tu: :tu:
