View Full Version : Zif Worm Version 5.0 (updated 5-26-05)
Finally got some time to get Zif Worm (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=11665) (see thread) working with Zbrush 2.0. There were a few folk creating some cool stuff.
zifwormmenu.JPG (http://javascript%3Cb%3E%3C/b%3E:zb_insimg%28%2712092%27,%27zifwormmenu.JPG%27,1,0%29)
Hehe I realized that my last version was 4.0, looks like we went backwards. Attached to this thread is the script and documentation. Please look over the old thread and examples in the documentation to get an idea of what you can do with it. I did not have time to update the graphics in the PDF but the operation is the same.
Have fun and feel free to ask questions and post some Worm Art
:ex:Update - Version 5.0 - 5-26-05 :ex:
Small update to fix a rotation error
Made the Position Menu more descriptive
Solidify the version number :)
Here is something I whipped up getting the script together.

Hey, Digits...
If George Lucas can do it, so can you!
Chapter 3: Revenge of the Worm
This is one of your best scripts... Not to mention, your WormWorks, some of my favorite art at ZBCentral.

How about a challenge where Zif Worm is used in the creation of representative pieces as opposed to abstracts. It would be fun to see the multi-various applications of this powerfull tool
Thanks to all for the feedback, I appreciate it.
Interesting challenge, I'd have to say that my Zif Click (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=22899) script lends itself better for actual Zsphere modelling but I would definitely be interested in seeing Zif Worm enter into new territory. The script actually got started from Pixolator's texturing tutorial, which I think I linked to in the original thread. It can also the making of wires and tubes very easy and the connections between objects.
If you have some ideas why don't you kick it off with an image, I will also try to come up with something.
Some of Juandel's Tree Scapes (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=11665&page=9&pp=15)
I wish I could, but I'm just beginning to learn Zif Worm.
A small update is available on the initial post.
Well, I started something but it didn't last long. How bout an Alien Gazebo?

95% Zif Worm
5% Zif Click
hmm...interesting, now - how did you create this background? :)
I know, silly question - object in the front is more important, but the background looks cool for me and reminds me something I need :)
thanx
Hi Vox
The background is a Plane3D on which I used a spray stroke to add some bumps. I then actually used my PeoplePoker (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=24616)script to strew about some tiny people around like leaves. The rest of the effect is the reflective material that I used and the enviroment settings in the render palette.
Hope that helps, thanks for your interest!

Great Picture!

-Question: I want to know how to make one end of a string thicker and the other end skinnier?
funny.jpg
Spanked:eek: Sounds like recreation to me, go fer it
Hey Az, nice to see some wormin goin on there.
There is a couple of ways to get a taper effect.
Example:
1. On the main panel there is a Incr slider, enter a minus number (4 or 5 is good) to go from larger to smaller, positive to go from smaller to larger.
2. Open the Size Menu and press the "Taper Button" this will taper the nodes. There is also Aver and size increment buttons to incrementally adjust the size of all nodes.
There is also a function in the Size menu called S->E to use this function
1. In Edit mode select and size the starting node
2. Still in Edit mode select and size the Last node
3. Pressing S->E will taper the worm from these two values
Example you can use this to fit one end of a worm into a small hole and connect it to another larger hole.
Let the worming commence!

thank you so much for those fantastico mandalas, Floyd! :tu: :tu: :tu: not to mention for updating ZifWorm to Z2 compability.
i hope to be able to share a few tentacled thingies, tornados, corals, anemonae, crazy hairdos, ornaments, branches/twigs/bushes etc. (and abstracts as sophisticated as yours) soon, but i was too distracted or blankminded yesternight so all i can come up with right now are some worms looking like they could be done via the snakehookbrush as well :D however i always wished the snakehook would be a 3d-tool - you made my dreams come true ;)

:b3: edit after receiving Digits & Rhoms message: thanks, Kirby! i hope you are doing fine these days! any rhom-masterpieces under way?
Floyd: glad you thought about the giants armpit and not some other part(s) :D hopefully you were able to enjoy the sea, breezes, beers etc. on your long weekend, amigo! heres tentacles-beast numero uno (i cheated a bit when i used the snakehook on the flat image in postproduction to unlevel the tentacles a bit - i agree that doing this in ZifClick would allow more control over single tentacles - however to do the jellyfish took me about 15 minutes thanks to ZifWorms :))

Just on my way out for a long Memorial Day weekend but I wanted to say.
Juandel, mi amigo, your images are water to a thirsty man. Some of them look like armhairs on a gnarly giant, but as always gems of elegant imagination. Thanks for the treat buddy

Totally inspirational! Woohooo!
I got inspired by Lemonado's No Math (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=26278)thread. Didn't exactly create a Moebius? out of zspheres but I thought it looked cool so I used it for this.

p.s. Nuts, your trio of images are truly elegant! I just had to add them to my Hall.of.Beauties art collection.
Yes indeed the first one has a very forensic pull to the eye and I especially love the perspective and Escher type feeling to #3. :tu::tu::tu:

Okay now howzabout a tutorial on how u came up with this fantastic Zifworm image? I love the old gold or old brass surfaces. I'd love to know how you did it. Step by step as I'm not very bright.

I was referring to Digit's beautifuly complex image posted right after the Zscrip of Zif Worm post. Post number 2 I believe.
Hi DigitalFX
I just PM'd you but I will see what I can do about throwing together a little tutorial as soon as I have a bit of free time. Be sure to download the Documentation as well and peruse the Old and New Zif Worm threads as I have posted some howto's in them. Just do a search on Zif Worm to see the threads for versions 1-5
Actually, I have a new version that I will be releasing soon and I will work your request into that.
Thanks for your Interest, I appreciate it.
aminuts
09-16-05, 10:20 PM
oh well if you are taking requests.....hahahaa
i would love to see a autosnapshot for sure and if ya got nothing better to do...an auto MM button too! that would really cook my goose! :D
I found a problem with my new version of Zif Worm so I am not going to release it yet.
I did however create a Tutorial that might get you started Digital, I will try to work on more as soon as I can get Zif Worm 6 squared away.
Zif Worm Tutorial 1 (http://www.cyber-webs.com/zbrush/scripts/Zif%20Worm/ZifWorm_1.htm)
Aminuts, although the tutorial shows the new interface for Zif Worm, notice I included an example of using the Snap function to automatically snapshot your object to the canvas. This feature is also included in the old version. I can't include an automatic Magic Marker feature because (depending on how you are using Zif Worm) alot of the objects you will create will share the same origin point and the MM will get overwritten.
I hope to find time to create some more tutorials as soon as I release the new version. Thanks for your interest guys!

DigitalFX

look at the lower corner....you will see a next button :D
yeah looking slick and yeah i am a dork.
Yeah know I had tried turning the snap thing on I think in one of the previous versions thinking thats what it was for (who reads directions anyways ) and it didn't work at that time and I then assumed (of course that I couldn't have possible done something wrong hahaha) that snap was for something else I couldn't be bothered to read the manual for.
Now I am one nut in need of serious saving from this script. :D

ZIF WORM 6.0 UPDATE
zifwormmenu.JPG (javascript:zb_insimg('19203','zifwormmenu.JPG',1,0))
As promised, a Zif Worm Update.
What's New
Navigation Panel Changed to be like ZCurve functionality
And
Added Morph
1. Select Morph Start
2. Select Morph End
3. Press Morph to create number of Interations in Iteration Slider.
This one isn't really made to install as a plugin, but if someone would like that I can write a ZifWormBooter script for you.
Happy Wormin!

Ps A suggestion of script : An automatic fractal with 2 objects
One is create at each Zspheres of the second
The first is not neccessary a Zsphere object :)
The first can be the second and vis versa :D
I believe that not very difficult because the is somewhere quasi this function
Have happy Scripting !

Maybe I can come up with something, but you can already do this with Zif Click (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=22899)
1. Make a little squiggly
2. Use Zif Click to copy it
3. Make a bigger squiggly
4. Use Zif Click to paste the little squiggly to the big squiggly wherever you want.
hmmmm... but an actual fractal generator would be cool. Got to find my thinking hat.

Hi Digits,
what are the chances of getting the xyz back? it's not a problem to use 5 and 6 so don't fret about it. I just found it easier but am probably the only one :D.
xyz+morph=funnyfarm for nuts!
oh yeah ya know while ya got nuttin to do.....an interface that let's ya zip between the mighty triumverate would be aweeeessoooommmmeee. ;)
