I'm not a customer, but I tried the demo and I'm interested in purchasing. A couple of things are bothering me, though.

I want to use ZBrush as a 3D only package. I just need to use the polygon editing tools for push and pulling and smudging things. I then want to be able to export back to my preferred animation package.

Is there any way to force Zbrush to ONLY let me do that, so I don't accidentally mess up mapping, drop to 2.5D, change trnasform, or whatever? Basically I want access to only a small portion of the toolset. In the demo, I kept accidentally changing things other than the vertices of the object.

Hi Chad, you can use Zbrush for 3D only as you wish, there is no problem if you drop your object all you have to do is erase it Ctrl-Z and draw it again. It stays right in your tool palette.

After you have modelled your object, you can export very easily as an obj file.

Zbrush is more than a modelling package tool, you'll have to design your best workflow to what suits your needs.

You might wanna drop by the FAQ forum, for resolving any questions such as why can't I edit my object anymore? It's really just an aesthetic problem.

Hi Chad
Welcome aboard !
Just some precision :)
With the demo you can't export anything only a 2d file "PSD"
You can't save any 3D model just a 2D image!
But yo can make quasi every thing in one session !
HAve happy Zbrushing

Yeah, I only tried the demo, so as for I/O of meshes, I have to just have faith. That's why I'm asking here.

It's not easily possible to turn off parts of the interface. However, it takes just a little practice to realize what you can and cannot do. There's also a "Begin Modeling" ZScript included in the bottom section of the default ZScript that would help you set ZBrush up for modeling at the click of a button.

To test a ZSphere mesh that has been exported from ZBrush go here: http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=009275

Happy ZBrushing! :)
