View Full Version : a little help, please
I have been trying out making heads again... not much success... still learning. I made a head using the 3d Sphere. After getting the base pretty much set, I find my only option to be unified skin, not adaptive. Can I change that? If so how? I prefer the adaptive skin over the unified, not as puffy.
And then I made a zshere head, before I go any farther.. second pic.. is this looking ok?
Of 121 and any suggestions as to where I go from here is definitely welcome.

hi,
the zsphere looks like a pretty good start...once you convert it to adaptive skin model as much as you can at 1st subd etc etc. you can add edgeloops to level one too if you need to add them.
For your other problem you can use the makepoly3d button the tool menu to turn your sphere head into a polymesh....keep in mind it's gonna have alot of polys to start with unless you try to optimize first...but will lose detail.
happy experimenting.

Weena,
If you make a 3d sphere head you can use the make polymesh button in the tool tab to convert it to a polymesh, which you can then devide a few more times if you wish, and do some cool textures on it in projectionmaster.
Oh, I see aminuts just answered the same question.
Your Zsphere head looks like a good start keep it up. I find it a good idea to save different versions as I work on them. They make good starting points for new heads.

Hi Wenna. I think your ZSphere head looks a bit too dense. It's easier to get basic shapes quickly if you can select and move individual vertices, rather than whole bunches. The default density value is 2 when working with ZSpheres, but I find it better to take the density down to one. Then your head only consists of a few dozen polygons, and I also find making the IRes one and selecting the Mc button gives really simple geometry. Then you can create an Adaptive skin and introduce edge loops, or increase the resolution or whatever. I attach a little script .. I'm still learning so please forgive the rather naff modelling. :D
btw .. select 'Show Actions' in the ZScript window before you load the script, otherwise it'll be over in a flash. Though maybe that's not such a bad thing.
Hi,
Thanks everyone for the tips! now I can't find the 3dSphere I made.. I know I saved it but where and what name has escaped me.. oh well, I can always do another one. I had made a polymesh of it, that's why I couldn't understand no adaptive choice.. maybe I click on the wrong tool when changing over.. I'll try, try again.
As for the zsphere head, I had taken it up 3 levels, down and up and down, created the edge loops. The head is not the right size, so should I have done that first? probably... been watching alot of tuts and get confused on when to do what..LOL
Also, moochie, I think I already have your script from before, but downloaded it just in case it wasn't the same. Thanks so much!
Here's hoping to do better in future and thanks again; I'll try to follow along.

p.s. Back from watching the zscript! Great! I didn't have that one and glad I watched.. I've got a better idea of what to do;Thank you so much! and also for the laugh at the end. Almost fell off my chair watching the deformations in action.. LOL
