Hi, all. There's another newbie in your midst. :)

I'm working with the demo version (still making up my mind as to whether or not to buy). I finally got the whole markering thing down so I can re-edit objects once they're saved.

Now I'd like to move on to importing, but the Import option is grayed out in the Document Palette.

Is it grayed out because I'm using the demo version, or is there something I need to do to activate it?

Second question: Is it possible to import jpeg photographs and apply 3D techniques to them? For instance, wrap a sphere with a 2D photo?

Thanks very much.

BTW, you guys have a great forum here. I've learned a lot just by browsing and searching. For a dyed-in-the-wool Photoshop user like myself, ZBrush is a toughy -- it requires a completely different approach to graphics creation. But its capabilities are awesome -- I hope I can do it justice :).

Thanks for all your help.

hi and welcome, Thunderwatch!

i think as soon as i will be ready with this post, you will already have received answers to your questions... what the heck:

its pretty long time that i have been in demomode, but as far as i remember imports are one of the main restrictions - no way that will work in demomode, i’m afraid!

#2: as soon as you are the proud owner of a full version you can import .bmp and .psd files (as per ver. 1.23 it’s just these 2, so you’ll have to convert .jpg’s into one of the 2) and apply them as textures... or make alphas... masks for the fog-effect... ororor... another way to make use are 2.5d enhancements of 2D-pix... your knowledges in photoshop will be a great help, but you are right: z-brush requires a different approach: that means: a good work-out for the synapses and mucho fun guaranteed! :D

Thanks, Juandel. I've got a few tutorials in hand, and I'm ready to roll.

In the "Modeling Basics Tutorial", Chapter 2 describes the Depth, Color, and Edit Size features of the Transform Palette.

I don't have those features in my Transform Palette. I'm wondering if they're not available in the demo version, or if I should be looking elsewhere for them, since the tutorial is for v.095 and maybe in the current version these features reside elsewhere.

Thanks again!

i am not sure which tut you are speaking about, but i think its rather old... check out the 300 pages .pdf tut available at pixologic.com download section (and the QuickLinks section in ZBC, see button on top of every page here)!

the controls in question are located in the draw-window. hope this helps!
