Hi, I woke up this morning and did a quick and dirty test for model that I want to make. I know this is very sloppy but I figured that I'de post something less grim then my last post which I removed. I'll post a better version later

I wouldn't say this is sloppy, in fact I think it's a very well crafted model. :) Very nice image. How long did it take you to do the scene?

Hi,
I had a frustrating zbrush week end. first problem was I didn't have much time to zbrush after I did this sketch second problem is I tried something that didn't work so well and instead of starting over I kept on trying to make it work ,third problem after spending a couple of hours making a model for his hair I was not able to save it in it's final form. I got an error message. I tried to render an image to look at, and possibly post then it crashed. I guess I 'm being punished for my previous sick post. I'm hoping to find some time this week to work on this more.
Yong, I spent about 3 hours on this scene
tgraupmann, This was based more on a painting by Murillo called suffering Christ done in 16 hundred something not Passion of Christ.
aminuts, scott, cosmic, and bas, thanks ,and do you have any idea why I was not able to save my hair model and why when I try to open up an earlier version that nothing shows up even though the preview of it shows up?
Inspite of the problems that I had I still love Zbrush.

Nobody got my Pun. Passion of Christ was directed by Mel Gibson. The spoof I linked to above, was the "Passion of Christ" overlayed with the "Kill Bill" soundtrack. Those religious folks should have been appalled. Never-the-less your work reminded me of it and I smiled inside.
Nice Start !! Can't wait to see the finished piece.. I'am sure it will be good..

excellent update...love the detail in the beard and the crown....I cannot wait to see this colored up!!!!
I am not sure what happened but one thing you might try if loading the model shows it up in the thumbnail and not the canvas is to hit the "." (period key). Perhaps when crashing it got moved out of view? Also(I know this might sound stupid but sometimes I forget myself dohhhh) check to make sure that the color in the swatch is not set to your background color which would make your model virtually invisible. Other than that....I am not sure why it's not showing up at this point.
hope something there helps.
oh yeah forgot a question or two....at what level were you trying to save the hair model at? it's best if your tool is getting up into the millions to move it back down to lowest subdlevel to save. All your detail will still be there at the highest levels but you save on memory overload at import and disk space. The only draw back...which isn't one if ya can't load the higher rez ones...is it might take a minute or two to run thru upping the levels while zb reconfigures. Really no big deal....cheaper than buying a membership at the HairClub for Men!!:D
Excellent modelling skills there Monstermaker, I like the second image more (true MM detail) but I still prefer you're other work, but that's because I'm a big horror fan.
Can't take away the fact that you are a very talented ZB dude...:D
Great looking model..do you plan to make the hair in the method you used in the "Le Brun" goatman..that looked fantastic !

Jesus (Yeshua his hebrew name) probably had more middle eastern/african features. I have studied this so you may want to correct this if you are interested in historical accuracy. Your work is great as always.

Hi, I've just spent my lunch hour replying to other's posts I figured I should do my own.
Thanks everyone for the complemnets.
Poisen, This was based somewhat on a painting from the 1600's byMurillo called the suffering christ. I've always liked the painting but not really the face of christ in that painting so I changed it
.
jonny blaze I wasn't really going for historical accuracy, though that would be interesting.
Moochie, ya ,I agree if fact I posted a slight change beforeI read your post

Frenchy, what took you so long to find the work that I based this on,you are usually faster. Again I wasn't going for an exact copy of this work .I've always liked it but was not crazy about the face.
Roger, See I'm not always dark. Though I do find the image of a guy about to be nailed to a cross a bit dark

I think the picture was more clever when Jesus was looking out of the mirror at you. The hair and stuff is really nice on the newer version, weak points in the thorn coloring though. I think his head should be a little scratched up from the throns too. Amazed at what you did with the hair
monstermaker
05-21-05, 11:54 AM
Hi thanks again,
stuh505, Glad someone caught that it was his mirror reflection in the first image, I agree with you about the thorn crown coloring. I considered doing a bloodier version but but was afraid that it would over power the rest of this image. I'll save that for the crucified version. thanks for your observations
Benard, I looked at your user gallery. I don't think that you have looked at mine.we are not that opposite. If you would have seen my last post ,which I have removed, you definately wouldn't think so

Ha quedado mucho mejor que el modelo. Felicidades monstermaker.
Monstermaker,
Alot of us would benefit from your texturing workflow expertise. I have not seen this kind of texturing except from Epic games new unreal 3 engine character pics. Your producing stunning textures and I'd love it if you would share some of that knowledge with the rest of us. What do you do with the GUV maps when you export them from Zbrush? Are you painting directly on the poly-model within ZBRUSH or are you laying out the UV maps and painting them in Photoshop? Would really appreciate your tips.
Stunning Work...
I realize this is a late post, but I had to say how much I love this picture.. truly a work of art. I've sat and stared at the final for awhile now, I am speechless. Congratulations on this beautiful work of Art.

Hey, Monstermaker. I've been stunned quite a lot by your work, but I discovered this piece tonight and thought, no, that is not right, of course that is technically well done but does not convey to the same feelings your previous works did. This is stricly personnal. I have benn happily puzzled by some of your works, but I think this one doesn't.
I feel a bit uncomfortable to say that but this the way I feel right now.
Keep up your research. You're obviously on the right tracks.

Hi, A number of you asked about the textures so I quickly did this. I made these alphas for the fabric and skin textures and used them with the directional brush in projection master on the color version, on this version I used the directional brush an the 2.5 d image. You can easily make your own or feel free to use these which will be of lesser quality because of the jpg compression. Play with zadd and zsub and try different sizes and strokes. I also included one to make hair like strokes but didn't use it on the color image. The important thing to do is play with them at different settings and have fun.

Great explanation Monster Maker, thanks for taking the time to post that. Any chance of a color tut, and what software you use? Thanks again.
monstermaker
05-23-05, 01:34 PM
odhinn, I'm going to try and put together a tut, but I'm really busy at the moment, and frankly if I have free time I would rather spend it doing a new ZBrush image. but I will try. Also I feel kind of wierd doing a tut as I still consider myself a beginner I've had ZBrush for less than 6 months and am still learning. I did just notice the other day that it says that I'm a senior member now , I think that they are refering to my age though.
To answer your question about software, I used mainly ZBrush. I started with a head model given to me from a friend that I believe was made in xsi it was the same one that I used for my old man. Remodeled it in ZBrush. modeled the main part of the hair from a 3d sphere .the hair ringlets from a 3d helix, the crown of thorns from a 3d ring, and the robe from a 3d plane. All in Zbrush. I then textured, colored, and rendered, again in ZBrush. I painted a few hairs and did some compositing and clean up in photoshop.

MM,
thanx for the explanation.
