I've been trying to get light and material settings right for a microscopic view , like in this picture by Pix.
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/showcase/sources/feature/021102__microphoto.jpg

Has anyone else tried to get a good result , I can't post my try at the moment because I had a little crash/forgot to save problem :p
So if you know good settings for light and material , please let me know.
I tried with the TriShader material.

Hi Namek
I don't know for the Pixo picture.
Here just a speedy test
Material Toy Plastic
No best Render
Second image = inverse first = negative
You can Add lights and BrushLight :)

Well, these three have been my ZB/SEMI experiments so far. Each one has a different feel but still convery that scan electron microscope look.

SEMI-1 (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1031483704beb.jpg)
SEMI-2 (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1034840464esu.jpg)
SEMI-3 (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1038709380tfr.jpg)

If this is kind of along the lines of what your looking for then let me know. I will set up some lights and mats for you. :D ;)

Hi Namek
Some example With Zbrush ( i don't remember their situation in the Zbc :) So
This one (http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=326504&Start=73&Artist=Frenchy%5FPilou&ByArtist=Yes)
And again this (http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=338526&Start=37&Artist=Frenchy%5FPilou&ByArtist=Yes)
In general when you convert a color picture in grey level and grow up push the contrast you obtain a view similar to microscopic felling :)
Have Fun

Second image = inverse first = negative, please explain.

I did this image http://www.brilliant-creations.com/parasite.htm

The effect was achieved mainly through the lighting. A Radial light helped give that micro-photography look. Hope that helps some

Hi User Maat
"Second image = inverse first = negative"
Just that : a pixel White of the first picture gives a pixel Black in the second picture !
It's like a photography : An original and his "negative" :)
Hope this help

Thank you for all the comments.
MTB : Yes it's a bit like your images I'm after (nice ones btw) but with higher specularity like in pix's image.
I thought most of it had to be changed in the material but I guess lights are important too. I'll try out the radial.
thanks again.

This is what I came up with. No nasty critters in it yet :p
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200303/user_image-1047647363ydv.jpg

And here's the material / light setting
micro.zip (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200303/user_file-1047647402jjm.zip)

Here is another method that Juandel (thanks JuJu!) came up with many moons ago.

http://www.cyber-webs.com/Floydvoid/zbrush/bluecell.JPG

Here are the materials

micromat.zip (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200303/user_file-1047650506qho.zip)

I like the burnt material best for this

1. Create your scene
2. Export your image in preview render (the material should almost appear black)
3. Export your image in Best Render
4. Use Photoshop Layer filters to get the translucent micro effect. (probably Overlay, I don't remember)

Hope this helps
