you could paint them on in photo shop though they wouldn't be 3D. or you could sculpt clumps of leaves out of a sphere and put them on there. the tree looks very good. it could not have ANY leaves and you could just put it in some creepy terraine. good luck whatever you decide.

yes it does....and a very nice one with character at that...I wish someone would post a .ztl that looked about like that tree and also one that shape to build limbs on a tree...wink wink wink

If you paint a leaf, use the default black bakground, and then use the 'MRGBZ' tool to grab the image, with 'Autocrop' on, you will have a leaf you can use as a texture. Apply this to a plane, use 'Hide Points' to make the black transparent, you will have a leaf.
Inflate or offset will enable you to add depth. Also, since you have it on a plane, you can reshape and distort various ways to make them unique in shape.
Aurick showed this technique being used in his 'Butterfly' pictures, and I suggest you do a search for that thread, as he explained it much better than I have...

Nice tree, looks like a DivyDivy tree found on the windswept coast of Aruba Dutch West Indies.

I always respect someone who can draw a good tree. This one has a great Sleepy Hollow type feel. :)

veryveryvery nice tree, Himico!

another idea beside Stonecutter’s pointing to the Aurick/Impending shmoovemove (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=002107) would be to build your own leavetool from a flat sphere (tool ::modifiers ::initialize ::low z-value) or the sweep-profile-3d-tool and place it at the branches using a small drawsize and freehand stroketype (for instance - play with stroketypes and objects... this can produce neato clusters within very short time! you could use this for the transparent textured plane described by Stonecutter, too, of course).

keep them coming!

juandel is right.. pay attention to hes words of wisdom... you can use their tech.. on alot of stuff to create tools... basically scan something into your computer or find a image you want to use... bring into photoshop or other 2d photo imaging program covert the image to a alpha channel, (black and with... bring the alpha into zbrush and apply that to a 3d plain...delete the points that you want to hide... after that apply your image to the tool. and there you have a tool with a texture...

Actually, I use a dense mesh Plane3D with an alpha map for hiding points and a matching texture map. :)

But whatever way works for you is the way to do it. You may even find something better!

No matter what, this is a really cool looking -- and creepy -- tree. Is Halloween coming around again already? :)

This is how I do it...

1. Draw a leaf. I use a cross shape to give me a leaf at each corner. Make sure the background is black

2. MRGBZGrab it using auto crop

3. Apply the texture to a Plane 3D with TRANSPARENCY turned on in the TEXURE panel. Increase the mesh resolution of the plane if needed.

-Make a tree however you like. Himicos`s is cool.

http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1010850876kud.jpg

-Using different brush stroke (mainly DRAG DOTS) with different spacing settings you can almost spray the leaves on to the branches. As the 3d plane trys to align itself to the `surface normal` of the Pixols that make up the branch you should get them facing in all different directions. To add variety rotate the texture a few times of even do a couple of different leaf designs at the start. It is a bit like using the IMAGE HOSE in Painter for those of you who know it. But with ZBrush you are spraying 3D objects into the canvas.

I did this a 640x480 so demo users should be able to try this....and I did it on a Pentium 1 laptop with an 800x600 screen with limited RAM and a 2meg card so don`t talk to me about low powered machines anymore!!! :)

Right on! I didn't know that "image hose" trick worked. Glad to hear it! Nifty technique, and very effective. Thanks, Glen!

when using the 3D Cylinder as the Trunk And Branches i found out it looks better if you
"TAPER" it before you start.
tree allways start fat at The Base then get thin giving it a taper look well most tree's LOL

Hey Aurick, I knew you could explain it more clearly! ;)

And Southern, that is a sincerely cool technique you elucidate...I'll be trying that today for sure! :tu:

HimiCo and southern got me going on trees-one of the materials in the MP works perfectly for bark. http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1010887980mzh.jpg

that tree looks so real I can almost smell the sap running thru its veins....very nice.....and I know what you mean about the motivation...You did very good and picked the right stuff for the bark as you said... :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:

Cool trees! I used the southern described method for a few of my earlier images except they were sculpted. Here are a couple of details.
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1010962202iwu.jpg

The leaves were done as a sculpted object. I used one as a tool for spraying down the vines. For the Willow leaves, I polymeshed 4 or 5 together, then placed, rotated and streched as needed.
