i had an inspiration to try modeling a plain with a picture on it to give it a 3D effect. i liked it so here it is. i drew/watercolored the picture and then scanned it. i hope y'all like it.

Something you might not be aware of is that you could mask the area outside the rose and hands, invert the mask, check 'Hide Points' in the 'Selection' panel, and just have the hands and rose without the rest of the plane...

Stonecutter-i tried what you said and i managed to screw it up and not get it to work at all. i'll keep trying though. it sounded cool.

Maybe I misinformed you, and you should mask outside your gloves and rose, don't invert the mask, and select 'Hide Points'...
I use this technique, and it's always worked for me...Maybe you could post what happened when you tried this, and we can sort out the problem... ;)

ok, i got the hide points to work, but it think my mesh is too...loose...not fine enough. it leaves the edges VERY ragged. i'll be sure to remember that technique though.
