View Full Version : Some Questions About Zbrush :)
I just found out about this app and it looks really great.
I'm wondering about doing Static Meshes and models for import into games editing like UED in Zbrush?
Zbrush can be used for this right? Can someone describe the process for me? Say I have a static mesh completed in 3DS Max what would I then need to go through to texture it in ZBrush and get it into a format that can be imported into Unreal Ed?
Can I just import the Max model and 'paint' it in 3d realtime and then expoprt it out all nice and textured? That would be awesome.
There has to be more to it than that though. That sounds way to simple.
Can someone explain a little to me about this. Some of the thinbgs people are doing in Zbrush look really slick though!!
Thanks :)

Hi Savant
Welcome aboard !
Yes you can :)
Look at the Quick guides (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=010737)
Somebody will answer you with a lot of detail but prepare Plug in Max with Obj format :)
Have happy Zbrushing texturizing

I think that you'll find this thread (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=010451) to be particulary interesting. :)
The OBJ2MAX and MAX2OBJ plugins are essential to be able to use your Max models in ZBrush. They're freely available from the internet.
Texturing is done using TextureMaster, which is included with ZBrush. There is a built-in tutorial. Just load the ZScript and click the "Show And Tell" button.
To get best results with TextureMaster, the model should be brought into ZBrush as Quads. You can convert it to triangles in Max after texturing, if you need to.
Hope that helps!
Its ok I found it :) (the show and tell button I mean) lol
I am off to learn Zbrushing looks like great program :)
Thanks.

Hi Savant
I spent last weekend writing a ZBrush to Studio Max tutorial for my website ... *ZLAND* (http://zbrush.cjb.net/) ... The current site is ... well, crappy, and needs to be updated ASAP, which I'm doing a bit every weekend, but I thought I might throw this page up on the existing page for you.
Hope it helps.
Upham :)

PS. There's an annoying popup on my site. Just ignore it. :D
Thanks, great tutorial!
Thats great. Am In right in thinking then that I can use as many custom textures and materials on the model as I like and Zbrush will save them all at once on the master bmp, so there will only be a single BMP at the end of my texturing in Zbrush?
Zbrsuh is a pretty slick program I like it, makes life much easier :)

Hi Upham
Your tuts are models of pedagogy
It's the first doc I have read when I have discovered Zbrush, they are my vade-mecum :)
Go ahead for new crazzy tuts !

Hey, glad you like the tut. Still a few more to come. I just need a bit of down-time (don't we all!)
Savant: You can paint textures and add materials- which you can bake the RGB info of the material onto the BMP map. You can't export native ZBrush materials into Max.
I'd advise you to go to the Pixologic site and download several ZScripts ... namely the TextureMaster (rev-G), MaterialPack, ZLauncher, ZList, Material List. These are all MUST-haves!
Sing out if you need a hand.
Upham :)
OK thanks.
I was just concerned that I would do the texturing in Zbrush and then when it exports it will look different because the materials and things didnt get put onto the master BMP or something :)
I will have to go and staudy more tutorials on this, especially how to use custom textures because I am not very good at it lol
I had a try to texture a tree I made and failed miserably to get enything close to a wood effect. hehe
It looked more like a giant turn than a tree really.
If you know more sites which do texturing tutprials and things I will be glad to see them. I think I need a few more lessons :0
