Inspired by Pilou's thread (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=010460&p=1) I was siezed by how his technique can make fascinating textures and shimmering colour harmonies. I created this visual experiment using Pilous techniques as my starting point then added to the image with 3d plane collaged elements, imported alphas, stencils and much use of processing the image further with the filter brushes + final overpainting. It was fast and fun and highly suited to my current lack of free time. :)
Many FX treatments c/o of Cameyo's fine utility Go get some candy (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=010331)
Here's another WIP using the same technique + pushing the use of materials further.

Boozy Floozy,
Excellent monotype simulation. The tiny head sprouting out the golden vine is particularly engaging.
Just out of curiousity, and, indeed, completely out of the realm of politeness, but did you train in a post graduate illustration program before taking on clients as a professional?
I only ask because I've been told by some that working towards a Masters degeree in so-called Fine Arts will only lead to good things. Then I see the suicide rates for places like Parson's or NYC Design School, or well-educated performace artists televising their plastic surguries and castrations and I think I'd be better of diving for pearls.
In any event, if you have any opinion on the subject, please post it here.
Muchas gracias and muy bien monograph!
By the way, please pay no mind to my intial response to your kind posting in my Pug Bunyon thread. I was overwhelmed more than one person actually took the time to post and began to ramble :D .
The "curlies" have been . . . retired.
Shame on them  .

Denture Cream there really can be no absolute answer to your question. Tis true that high profile art and design schools have muscle in opening doors for their students after graduation. Their contacts and network can be of a great advantage as can studying amongst other talented and inpsirational individuals.
I never did a post -grad. I trained in graphic design for 4 years and after completion decided I wished to be an illustrator. And so off I went to the big city portfolio in hand, knowing nobody -save my older brother, having no contacts and having no knowledge of the industry whatsoever.
If you have the talent, aren't afraid of the knock-backs and are focussed towards your goals you can achieve success.
However all that said it worth noting that the communications industry is radically different now when I left college. For a start nobody used computers then and skill specialisation within the industry was the norm. Nowadays individuals must welcome far more diversity in their working lives and must have a far broader skills base within the world of games, flash animation, dvd, cd, web, tv and emerging markets. Print based media traditionaly the arena of the illustrator is no longer the cash cow it once was.
Flip open your phone book and you'll find thousands of new media companies, but finding a good plumber's hard.
If I was starting again I'd take a coarse in plumbing or carpentry. Atleast I 'd be finished my working day at 5pm. :)

Boozy Floozy,
Thanks for your response.
I wasn't hoping for a do-this-don't-do-that type of answer. What you provided -- a professional's perspective on the slippery steps taken to break into the industry -- is exactly what I needed to hear.
Also, I have a friend who completed a plumbing apprenticeship out of high school and is now part of a big time corporation, earning six digits and traveling all the hell over the US. He assures me that he doesn't just take hair out of drains, and keeps saying art will kill me, and I need to get a life.
Everybody's right, damnit. Best thing I can do, is to relax and stop worrying about the aggravations ahead.
Plus, I need to buy lots and lots of Cheeze-Whiz. Yeah. Cheeze-Whiz is just the ticket. :D :tu:
Thanks again for your time . :tu:

"art will kill me, and I need to get a life." :)
Your friend is a wise man - I'm off to be a plumber it's decided. Pass the joint solder and that Cheeze-Whiz, I'm getting out to feel the sun on my face and smell the daiseys.
Your work and the stories that accompany them are very funny and playful Denture Cream. I'm sure you could carve a very individual niche for yourself. :tu:

Thanks folks for comments and links .
I like the kiddies best too and it's also the one I think I'll add to and finish at a later date.
I have all sorts of schemes for the black dog but I think they would be all to down beat gothic and gloomy. For the time being anyway. ;)

I missed this before - nice work on all three. I don't have a personal favourite, I like them all equally. :tu: :tu: :tu:
I hope your visions for the black dog are not based on Ian McEwan's novel "Black Dogs" - grim and powerful, but probably best not transposed into a visual medium...
