View Full Version : Is ZBrush good for low-poly modelling?

I'd like to know how good this program would be over more traditional modelers like MAX and Lightwave, for making or modifying low-poly models (under 1500 polys), to be used in a game?
I'm aware that it would be unwise to build one from scratch due to problems in animating (namely skinning), but if anyone has used it and gotten good results, I'd be interested in hearing...

Try this thread by Upham... http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=003109
I'm not a 'low-poly' guy, but it certainly explained a lot to me! ;)

Thanks, that was interesting. :)
I've done lots of low poly stuff using lightwave modeller, and I've found that you need to take special care how you model joints to reduce pinching and stuff when animating.
From what I see, ZBrush would be great to use AFTER you make your model in a dedicated 3d app(where you can manipulate triangles an vertices with precision).
Maybe more 3d specific stuff will come in future releases. I sure hope so. :)
Ken Brilliant (KenB) feels the same way. He has done some awesome stuff along these lines, and shows a bit in This Thread (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=002859).
