Hi Palladin
It's normal !
The proverb said "you can't see the wood for the trees" :)

hi, Palladin! are the :tu: :tu: :tu: trees on an own layer? then you could place this layer in front by layers>modifiers>displace Z (negative values, as - z-values mean closer). then you could try to add depth by enabling depth-cue (render palette, second icon from left in top row - to play with its settings open the depth-cue dialogue below - by vlick dragging-picking from canvas into the depth 1 and depth 2 squares or inserting values there manually you can achieve customized results) also fog might add to depth-effect. hope this helps!

Hi, do not get me wrong if you already know what I am about to write please forgive me.. I think you need to understand the general idea of perspective. All parellel lines meet at the same spot on the horizon line called the vanishing point. Knowing this fact you can line up your trees along the lines either above the horizon line or below it. Once you do this your trees will show depth and in so doing perspective. This is a quick example of what I am trying to explain.I hope it helps.

I agree with all of the above.

Look at photographs of mountains with forests in the foreground. The trees appear to become smaller the farther away they get until at extreme distances they just look like green color on the side of the mountain. In addition, things blur as they move farther away from the focal point of the camera.

Also, in order to see anything at a distance, you must have an element that allows you to do so -- either a gap in the trees or the mountain slopes rising up in the distance so that you can see above the trees in the foreground. The way that this image is laid out, there are no such gaps. All that you would be able to see in real life is the front stand of trees and blurry mountains in the distance where they rise high enough to be seen over the tree tops.

By the way, for your tree trunks I recommend setting the Tool>Modifiers>Smooth slider to a value of 1 or using a higher Density setting in the Tool>Inventory palette before you skin the ZSpheres. This will give you smooth trunks and hide the polygons.

Hi, thanks a lot for everyone tips. The only thing I don't know yet is how to place the leaves in a way that they can reproduce depht. With the colorized spray the leaves seem like where painted in a wall. I tried painting them on a terrain an deforming it to resemble a forest in the horizon, but it don't worked. Someone knows another way to draw the leaves and have depht?

Thanks

Try the QuickLinks... there are a few scripts there on the subject of creating realistic looking leaves. Top right of this page..I am sure you will get some help there..

Just one final thought on the original question. In addition to all the other excellent points already made, to get that realistic depth look you will need to modify either your terrain, so that the trees are growing on a hillside, or your viewpoint so that you can see over the tops of the foremost trees, otherwise as Pilou said, the farther trees would not in any case be naturally visible.

One more thing I don't think has been mentioned: objects farther away will become more blueish looking.

Thanks everyone for the help. I hope that soon I will came back with a much better scenery. I only want to known if I have to draw the leaves like in this painting or just draw a lot of green points. What will be more realistic? Also someone knows if there are any forests draw in 3d(I want to see some pictures to have a better idea of what I have to do)?

Thanks
