An EX ED comeback for some tech help....please.

I have scores of models in various pieces, but I cannot get them to 'Polymesh'.

I press polymesh......and after a few seconds I receive the message 'Insufficient relocated memory'. I have tried all the memory settings in ZBrush, and virtual mem allocation in Windows.

The model pictured has 6 objects...at full resolution. I don't want to optimise them.
It contains 783,360 polygons. I have 20gig spare hard drive space, 385 meg ram, Win ME, no coffee left, and lung cancer.

Why can't I polymesh the objects?

Do I need more coffee?

Save in another file format and import to the star mesh?

Or is there a limit to polygon amount?

Or is it because (as I have Just spotted) I have ZAdd and rgb ON?

Hey Ed.........

Did you figure it out?

Yup! Sure did.

More coffee.........and Optimised each object of the whole by ONE. :D

Thanks anyway folks. :) :tu: :tu:

more than 700.000 polys altogether? maaan,m i've seen entire high detail scenes with less polygons!!! i guess you simply *must* optimize before making it a polymesh, maybe there even is a limit to the nimber of polygons Z can handle at once.
and honest, if you dont plan on rendering that thing billboard size at 300 dpi, you simply dont *need* that much detail.
i'd recommend optimizing your parts one by one, you won't even loose texture detail or mapping coords, if you dont mask/select parts of your meshes. judging from your screenshot i'd estimate, that your (great looking) dog should be fine at a quarter of your current polycount.

Glad you worked it out Ed, I wouldn't have had a clue, technical stuff loses me.

Thanks Kruzr, and Juandel for the advice and support.

So far I have figured there is a polygon limit. So I have meshed the model under different optimised settings. As seen in the pic below.........which is a ROUGH to see what was what. To date I am still not happy with the meshing approach, nor the various pieces of the model, and how I have shaped them to join.

When I get that right, plus the right level of optimisation for the model..........file size and detail amount.......I shall send you both the model........so be prepared one day for a big download.

Anyway back to the drawing board.

Edit: All ZBrush....all original....all 3D...
