View Full Version : MaterialPack : 100 Materials + A Browsing ZScript...
Pixolator

Hi :)
This <font color=#FFa000>Material</font><font color=#FFFFFF>Pack</font> contains 100 materials and a VCR-like browsing ZScript.
ZBrush material is created by modifying its sub-shaders. The type of shader that a material is composed of, determines the type of material that can be created. ZBrush materials have 1 to 3 sub-shaders in various configurations, and some of the materials that are included in this <font color=#FFa000>Material</font><font color=#FFFFFF>Pack</font> have shader-configuration that is not available in the default ZBrush material library. (For example? some materials are using double noise generators )
http://www.pixolator.com/images01/ContactSheet02.jpg
:b3: Click here to download the MaterialPack ZScript (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/counters/increment-zscripts.cgi/MaterialPack.zip?3utilities/MaterialPack.zip) :b3:
:b3: The zip file contains the <font color=#FFa000>Material</font><font color=#FFFFFF>Pack</font> folder which is 3+ MB in size (due to the large number of included materials).
:b3: The <font color=#FFa000>Material</font><font color=#FFFFFF>Pack</font> folder contains 206 (two hundreds and six) files.
:b3: The <font color=#FFa000>Material</font><font color=#FFFFFF>Pack</font> folder should be placed within your ZScript folder for easy access.
After placing the <font color=#FFa000>Material</font><font color=#FFFFFF>Pack</font> folder within your ZScript folder, launch ZBrush and load the MaterialPack.txt ZScript, then press the ??? button to learn about this ZScript.
Have fun ZBrushing with shiny new materials :)
-Pixolator
Note: Rev-B of this ZScript (which will be released soon) will add the capability to create your own MaterialPack, this will allow you to easily browse your material library and share your materials with other ZBrush users.(I do know that Southern is eagerly awaiting Rev-B :) )

Pix, this is unbelievable. THANK YOU! :D :D :D :D
WOW, its great !! Thanx pixolator.. ANd when we are talking abot material :D, I got one wish, it would be great if I could map specularity too, it is quite important thing in "photorealistic" materials, probably more important that bump... It would be great to have bump and specularity in separate bitmap file, but maybe color specularity would be enogh....
Thanx, I know that you got lot of work so this was just my sugestion for future versions of ZBrush...
looks cool im going to try that when i get home from work..
the ice ball looking one is my favorite :tu: :tu:

I hope 3DS users are watching this...
Their software company would come up with something like this, have a big splash panel on their website, saying something like:
'NOW...Material pack...Only $256.00!...Upgrade Now!!!'
Thank you Ofer...This software, and this company is so great it makes my head hurt!
There aren't enough :tu: to do it....
Thanks Pix, I'm going to have lots of fun with these, what a bonus, I love this forum :tu: :tu: :tu:

i pix.. just downloaded but i seem to have a problem loading it.. i did exactly that you said.. put the material folder in with you scripts. then load the material tex.. all i get is question marks in a triangle.. am i suposed to wait for version b to come out for it to work with version b..
I'm not sure what I've done or if my computer is acting up, but I can get the MaterialPack to work, and have sucessfully applied materials to spheres, but now I'm getting a popup that says - "Error has been encounted, while trying to load a material. Loading has been aported". Sometimes this crashes ZBrush!!
Anyone else? Or is it just me?
Upham :(
:b4: EDIT :b4: Forgot to mention I accessed MaterialPack via a modified Southern script button (Z1). But now I load it straight from the ZScript palette and no problems!
Panic Over! :D
:b3: Though I'm having no luck making the Markers and Multi-marker tool remember the new materials! Anyone else?? :b3:
I do not know if anyone has tried the new materials pack as yet but they are fantastic. Smooth as silk and you can change the texture by just clicking on the pattern you want.Below is a quick example with some noise added. http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1010700294anh.jpg
Wow... those are great and easy to use. Even though I've had this program for a few months and have yet to create anything worth while... I still love it. I tend to relax playing with all the different things. Learning slowly. Someday I hope to master it. My problem is I can't focus. I keep getting distracted by these nifty toys. ~G~

I am experiencing the error while trying to load a material problem also. Any idea what is going wrong here?
I think I set everything up correctly, it seems ok until I try to actually use one of the materials.
By the way, thanks for the MaterialPack it looks great!

hmmm, just coming back from :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:... new z-material playgrounds i find some of you in troubles... upham, glad you found a way out :D
the only lil problem i encountered during my first 3.5 hrs. 1st extensive exploration of new materials was when i hit the material-thumb instead of the red button with its name right atop of it... that kind of freezes the cursor over the thumbnail and makes the script window wander with it when you move the cursor... (MacOS 8.6). it helps to click the icon once more - cursor will be moveable again and you can head for the button. :D
DeeVee: looking great! :D

sorry for not sending you a email verna.. but im having trouble with my email system .. this in the error that i got.. ive put the folder with all the materials and script in the default zscript and from my script panel tryed to load the txt file from the folder it was in and every time i get just a single triangle with a question mark.. and if scroll down in the txt are i comes up with the screen that ive provided to you.. this is the error that im getting... also there is a file in the folder that is named (error.err) its the very first file in the folder.. is this my little problem.. and i forgot to mention that ive downloaded twice just to make sure that i wasnt having problems with the download... http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1010708487biz.jpg
mine works fine( even with the demo). Drjjwow, all i did was extracted the material pack folder (zipped) into a folder (that i made named material pack) inside of the Zscript folder. (do you get that cause i tihnk it sounds wierd?) Im not sure if you did this but it sounds like you took the default material folder and put it in the Zscript folder...I dunno. Oh well, its an AWESOME PACK!!! all of the materials remind me of planets lol.

01-10-02, 04:49 PM
Hey Doc, it works fine for me too...
It looks like you're missing the image files in the screenshot you show...I did fundamentally the same thing, I made a folder, downloaded the zip to it, unzipped it into the same folder, then copied the entire folder into the ZScript folder.
Worked like a charm. Can you see the image files inside the folder?
drjjwow
01-10-02, 04:57 PM
all i did is download the file into the file where i place all my zbrush zip files. unzipped it to another file then dragged it and dropped it into zscripts.. i thought thats what pix wanted us to do..

What LWTB said, Doc!
I made a folder called Material Manager, placed it in a default drive, did what I said above, then copied the entire folder into ZBrush...That could be your problem, ZBud!

To anyone having difficulties with the Material Pack,
All of the files from the Material Pack must be in the same folder. It is suggested that you create a folder inside the ZScript folder that is called MaterialPack. The Material Pack archive should be extracted to this folder. No other outside files or folders need to be added to the MaterialPack folder for the Material Pack ZScript to work.
Make sure that you are using version 1.23b, whether you are using the demo or the commerical version.
If you continue to have difficulties getting this ZScript to work properly, please send me an email directly. Please include your system specifications such as Platform (PC or Mac)
Operating system (for example, OS9.1, WinXP)
Processor speed
Amount of system memory
Screen resolution
ZBrush version number and license, such as 1.23b demo or 1.23b commericial
verna@pixologic.com
-ZuZu :)
Yeah, as Stonecutter says above, there should be a draw in your ZScripts draw called MaterialPack with all the files in it!
Your ZScript draw must be very messy by now!

Hi Dr. jjwow,
If you wish to incorporate the MaterialPack into your default ZScript, please remember the following:
Any ZScript that is incorporated into the default ZScript must also be in the same directory as the default ZScript.
All of the files included with the MaterialPack ZScript must be in the same directory for the MaterialPack ZScript to work properly.

hi zuzu.. well i did what you said to do with putting the files into the default zscript folder and it didnt work.. in auricks defaut selector he has folders that can be used in the default script..i built my own default using his tech... so i did the same thing as i would anyother script i placed my short cut on my default script told it what folder to look into.. it loads just fine but when you go to copy a material it gives me a error.. i also tryed defining a folder in the materialpack script but nothing happened... can this even be done..
Hi guys. I put the button code to go to the mat pack at the end of Auricks script. I put the button to return to Auricks script in several different locations in the Mat Pack script. This location works perfectly

southern, please please please don't tell me, you did that hair with the fiber brush again! :)
regarding the materials, all i can say is *wooooow* (plus an unlimited number of additional o's), as far as i understood the concept (which not very far, actually), each and every material is rather a *prototype* than a mere *preset*, so we just got 100 shaders for free ... amazing.
just can't stop playing with all the new toys (of course the excellent alpha thingie and the fontmaster are responsible for that as well), even if that puts me back into the *smearing blobs of color* condition :)
for other apps, that would cost *much* more than $ 250, i bet.

i’m too absorbed in material worlds to take part in zbc-fun these days :)
here are 2 done with variations of MP033:
http://www.cyber-webs.com/zbrush/2bws.jpg
http://www.cyber-webs.com/zbrush/reefmarm1.jpg
for the above one the checkerboardtexture was inserted instead of the texture in S1, followed by fiddling with settings in S1.
2nd one was done with an mrgbz-grabbed texture of my own, colors were mostly done via the fog-colors. while doing this one i had some stipplepaper (?) effect-material for some time i was rather happy with, which should be easy to reproduce (i hope, as i have not saved the one i liked the most).

Spit it out Muvlo! please...thanx!
Great stuff, we are all waiting !
Damn, Muvlo, that is COOL!
Patiently awaiting explanation......... :)
Thanks. :)
The general way in which it was made:
For the whole thing, my lighting a Sun at the top left set to a golden yellow at full intensity.
I used a sphere in dot stroke mode to do the stars. I used a material with lots of color variance to make the stars lightly different. Then I baked it.
I next made a sphere with a yellowish material, put in the top left, and baked. The smudge brush was then used to pull it out. Then a red and noisy material in the middle of the yellow blob. Bake. Snake hook, smudge, and blur.
And then I used the same red and noisy material on a sphere in the top right. Bake Smudge. Smudge. And more smudge. Bur.
Now a new layer. Turn off previous one. Then a very noisy, blue material on a huge sphere to make the planet on the bottom. Fog with far point at back of planet, near point towards us. Fisrt color blue, second black. Best Render. Bake. Merge with previous layer.
New Sphere with gold and yellow material and negative noise for planet to far right.
Lastly, new layer. MP014 applied to huge sphere covering entire document. Transparency turned on and ZGraph edited leaving the brighter spots to make lense flare. Best render.
Sorry I can't be more specific, but this was a kind of trial and error and error image...
:) Thanks again Pix! :D
Thank you Muvlo, This has a fantastic Aurora Borealis look. Well done

Make sure that when you select a material in the script that you select an unused material first in the Material palette. Materials replace others, you can't have more or less like with tools, textures, and alphas.

It should be nice:
We could save a material under its own name, like 'NiceMatForTree' instead of MP074. This way its more easy to recognize materials.
Or, when the name cannot be changed:
We always we get a textured sphere. I would be nice to choose an object to render. This way we can make a pictogram, like a salmon with the nice salmon texture.
Also placing textures in a catalogue, under a sub-category like stone, metal, nature.
I know, a lot of wishes :D

can I ask how you got it to work in 3.1? I mean the "VCR" menu for it?

To get the VCR you have to load the txt file inside of the Zscripts folder. It loads at the bottom of mine.

LordLight, this link will take you to MaterialPack2, which I have had no problem using with 3.1 http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=29225&highlight=materialpack
The version of MaterialPack in this thread is far too old to run with 3.1

You digged the thread that is few years old. There is a MatCap library on the Pixo site:
http://www.pixologic.com/zbrush/downloadcenter/library/
There're few other cool stuff in the download center. Check them out.

shot...i noticed it's ancient...:P...I downloaded a whole bunch of materials, but when extracting the zip files it keeps telling me "the archive is either unknown or the format damaged"...I have no idea why this is happening!!?
