Here's my contribution, Happy Head. I'm just learning how to texture (have to learn about highlights, shadows, and varying the texture here and there) and playing with eyes.
I know the eyelids and eyes are pretty poor but I was having so much trouble with getting eyes to fit properly in the sockets until I came across a tip here (sorry can't remember who ... Kathy?) to do the eyes on a new layer and then go back to the head (first time using a multimarker, too!) and then shape the eyelids over the eyes. This was the first time I tried it and am so excited about this technique I posted my first-time result.
Anyhow, I don't post much yet but I have to say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to everyone here for being so cool and sharing your techniques.
Okay now, back to our regularly scheduled program...

Thanks Andresloy for comments and for the use of your eyes! BTW, one of my fav images of yours is "Tribute to Digits and Zif Worm Station". Such a cool abstract.
Take it easy.
I don't know quite how to say it.
You have given this head a personality.
Despite what you have pointed out about its shortcomings. You have given a "life attribute" to a 3d figure.
There are people who model a lot better than us who can't do it.
My congratulations.

Love your eye textures too Elliot! The first steps are the hardest to make in life but always the most memorable. Kathy is one helluva artist too...you picked a good person to find tips from...she and her words helped me out tremendously while she was active here...another persons tips I would seek out on the forum would be Mentat7...He ahs alot of stuff in the Quicklinks sections ...another of my mentors..

Ron, I've been following your posts and your inspiring images for a while now and learning as I go. There's tons of help on this forum from you and the rest so thanks very much.
And I agree about Mentat, Southern, Juandel, Ken B, Pixolator ... all of you. To quote something Frenchy might say "Tres coolio".

Hey Frenchy ... yes I am using TextureMaster which is so incredibly helpful. Overall I've found that zbrush is somewhat easy to use to model amateurish head (ie. for someone like myself with very little artistic ability). It gets significantly harder to model a really good head and the texturing process DOES require a keen eye and talent.
This is where the real skill shows through, IMO. It's one thing to move and carve until a face shows up in a sphere3d (and that is awesome in itself) but beyond that(with texturing, lighting, etc.) I can truly appreciate the mastery shown by the individuals I mentioned above and tons more.
I pretty much am at a very rudimentary level in using zbrush. Mostly learning how to model a head .. haven't even tried a body yet. I want to do more with texturing as that makes all the difference but it's tough because I never took an art class in my life and certainly can't draw. But I'm studying the works posted here and learning how, for example, an ear is placed relative to an eye (although I know there are no hard and fast rules).
Anyhow, awesome job everyone and keep up the cordial spirit here. Everybody is improving so much because of it and non-artists like myself are very appreciative of the encouragement. Heck, I think I could post an unmodified sphere and you folks would nod in approval. God, that's kindness.

Speaking for myself, it is spirits like yours that bring out the best.
If you sense cordial, it is because you bring it.
All the best.
