View Full Version : Making Displacement maps in ZB-2....How?

Hi chaps......so I just got this fine tool yesterday ,and am really busy with work ,and am fundementally lazy :o
Soooooooooo,I want to bring a Mesh in from LW(or any other program)
Do i UV the object in my native package , or do i do this in ZB-2
How do i do this,
is there a step by step guide.......
very impressed by this forumn and the product so far
Love the learning Scripts(any one got any on Displacement mapping Tutorials......

You can do the UV's in either app. You'll have more control doing it outside of ZB, though ZB's AUV/GUV tiling can also work quite well if your needs aren't too demanding. You'll want to export your base mesh as a OBJ file and import that as a polymesh tool in ZB. I don't know what the best settings are for moving your model back and forth between apps, I use 3DS Max and had to experiment in order to find the perfect settings so that XYZ stayed XYZ.

As for actually subdividing the mesh and making disp/bump/normal maps, click the help button in ZB. Then click List All Zscript Tutorials, then go to page 2 and click on Modeling: Displacment Mapping. I'm sure other LW users will fill you in on everything else you need to know after that point (exporting from ZB and setup in LW).
