Wacom using 64 bit enthusiasts unite!

BAH! I just heard back from Wacom after I went begging after 64 bit drivers from them for my tablet, that "There will be no drivers available from us until the operating system is released for retail. Sorry for the inconvenience."

which means to me, theyre procrastinating, and prolly wont have them till sometime after its released for retail. Many other high profile device makers like ati and nvidia already have at least beta versions availiable.

Im not sure if I can function without my intuos...especially in Zbrush...it would suck the soul right out of the experience for me... yet Im really looking forward to a 64 bit world where I can actually use that 4 gigs of dual chanel ram to its potential. All you similary wacom dependant people looking forward to the 64 bit evolution, drop Wacom a line, and let them know of your demand for this. 64 Bit windows will be out within the next 5 months, the first release canidate will be availiable as a free beta any day now, and 32 bit device drivers WILL NOT work on it. Some manufacturers are going to need prodding to get them out promptly.

Not to be annoying, but if you had an os x machine. You could have your 4 to 8 gigs of ram, and use your wacom tablet. ;) I'm sure that's not the point of your post. Wacom need some serious competition, so that they take upgrading more seriously. But I love my wacom tablet. *hugs tablet* Even if it took them a couple of months to upgrade the drivers for os x 10.3. I wouldn't be surprised if their holding the drivers on the request of ms.

Hey Bingo yeah that sucks but loadrunner has the right idea. I wonder if you emailed aiptek at www.aiptek.com (http://www.aiptek.com) with the same question would they respond any better. Ofcourse there tablets are not nearly as good as wacom's but they are trying. they have a 12"x12" tablet for around $150 bucks and a new 15" tablet like wacom's for about a grand. ofcourse the downside to their tablets no tilt and needs battery. but with such cheap prices if they are willing to do a driver and you just have to have your tablet it may be worth looking into, sorry I couldn't be more help.:rolleyes:

And sadly, no, there is no other Tablet but Wacom. I love it dearly.

I apologize for posting here. Thought I might find parties this actually concerned, but I see I was mistaken. Lesson learned, and consider me properly chastened.

I sent them an email requesting 64 bit drivers. 64bit Linux drivers :p hell I'd settle for offical wacom drivers for 32bit linux. I agree though I would really like to see them being proactive.

I can't blame them in a way for waiting. Specially with windows track record of throwing out os's that are unstable and buggy. I wouldn't be suprised if wacom waits until after the first or second major update.

which sucks cuz zbrush without a pen is like a Harley out of gas.

I've been thinking about building my own pen. (wacom sells extra parts)

Release Canidate 1 of windows xp pro 64 bit edition was just made availiable for free public beta:

This is a big step up from the old beta that was being offered. MS just announced the Retail OS will ship in the beginning of this April.


Still no wacom drivers though :/
