View Full Version : Zbrush 2 - Day 2 - Eternal American Hero WIP
My second post... That's it, I'm officially addicted to ZB. Just decided this morning to learn more seriously with a cleaner mode and reference material.
It's a very first rough, it took me a bit more than one hour and a half and it begins to look like him (there's 10 quids waiting here for the first who recognize him). A lot of areas are still to correct (mainly with proportions and overall detail discrepencies)
I have also a lot of problems with the eye lids and I can't manage to "clean up" the eye lids to create a clean cavity... I tried the crease function but it failed blatantly resulting in a very pinched edgeloop and it's now completely tangled (it's not visible here though) any suggestions ?
OK, here is the fella, please be indulgent, I know there's a lot of defects but I need a break to put a fresh eye on it.

The main reason for all thos proportion mistakes is the fact that I've been working exclusively with an isometric projection so, how can you change the focal length in ZB ?
I'm still amazed by the speed at which you can iterate in ZB... An hour and a half for what would have taken me 2 days in maya... phew.
Stupid double post- but instead of getting
an admin to delete it I'll just use it to say
good work by the way! It looks a lot like him now, and I'm sure you'll get it looking just like him after taking a break.

There was a post a long while back about different methods for doing eyes. Let me see if I can find it.
PS: We really need to bring back those weekly challenges. An entire series that focussed on different parts of the anatomy each week would be a great start I think.
Edit: Can't find the thread I'm thinking of (memory ain't so great). Just do a search for "eye lid", hehe. By the way, forgot to mention that I really like your style of modeling. Looking forward to seeing more work by you done in ZB. ;)

Looking good. Top half of the skull might be a tad high?
A tip on your tangled mesh around the eyes: Try using the smooth tool option in the transform dropdown. The higher the Zintesity, the more your sroke will "relax" a pinched up mesh. You may have to resculpt the eyelids, but at least you'll have a proper mesh to work with.
Another beautiful model! I have the same problem with eyelids and I haven't found a solution yet. I'm using 1.55 which doesn't have the smooth brush. I'm sure Curious is right and that will help a lot.

Ps The amazing thing is : why don't you know yet Zbrush capabilities? (especialy his speedy precise modeling) :)
Glen Southern trick's eyes (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=005412)
And this link for some
creation of eyes, eyeslid,... !!! (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=013350) (slide the page I had given some numerous links inside :)
And we have no winner... Bicc39 was getting close with his Britney Spears guess... Unfortunately close answers won't do, sorry...
The right was ELMO ! Indeed !
I think I wasn't clear when I talked about the eyes problem... However the solution just came to me naturally. I can do proper eye lids in seconds with nice chiseled edges... I love ZB. Thank you all for your help and suggestions anyway, thanks for the tuts and everything, they'll sure prove useful soon.
No one to help me with the focal length ?

look in the lights menu under shadows.
I'm new to ZBrush myself but I'm pretty sure you can't change the focal length of the lens for modelling purposes though you can alter the perspective for rendering.
Care to share your eyelid technique? :D

Perspective: BazC is correct. There is no documented way to alter the focal length while in edit mode. The only workaround would be to draw the tool with Perspective, and then go into edit mode to make changes, and back out of edit mode to view the model in perspective mode. BTW, press the shift key while pressing the DRAW:Persp button to enter "Global Perspective" mode. Then draw your model. In my opinion, this will usually give a better perspective effect and is almost required when working with multiple objects.
YES! Please share your eyelid technique. :)
