Don't worry Ramon - you won't have to run very fast to escape thees beez: they haven't grown their wingz yet! :D
But seriously... I do like bees, and these are looking pretty good so far. I especially like the details of the head: the frons, eyes and mandibles are very lifelike. I guess getting the venation of the wings right is going to be a bit of a challenge. Looking forward to seeing the finished hive. :tu: :tu: :tu:
No, no,no, don't like bee's, don't like the details, don't like those little legs, don't like what there stinging tails are planing, don't like the fuzzy little body crawling ........I DON'T CARE IF THEY DON'T HAVE WINGS!!!!.................... curled up in her corner shaking.... You did do some excellent modeling though. Great job :)... Maybe just a little to good
Looking forward to the updates. great start.

A magic start, P! The feel of this is already incredible, with a kind of National Geographic clarity!
Looking forward to your process on this one!!
:tu: :tu: :tu:  :tu: :tu: :tu:
Ack! Now this is a scary image! :D
I hate beez! But I love the image. They look real even if they don't have wings. Matter of fact, too bad all beez don't have wings. :D Think you could have a chat with mother nature re modern bee design. :D
Great Image!
:tu: :tu: :tu:
extra bits added including the wings which seemed to have worked out okay.

Very nice update, those wings looks spectacular! :)
These are so realistic. I'd be interested in seeing your methods (if it's beta, we'll wait, of course).
This image is all Zbrush 1.23beee, :). yep I am gonna explain all me methods on this one, but there is the final stahe yet.
This is great work picsas, very Bzzzzzzzz :D

Well, yes and no re the wings, I'm afraid.
Two points. First bees have TWO pairs of wings (flies are the only insects to have but a single pair). The second pair are held folded under the forewings at rest, which is what I thought might give you difficulty modelling with the transparency. Secondly I'd hoped for an attempt at appropriate venation (variable between species, but of a fairly characteristic pattern).
Don't get me wrong - I think the picture is :tu: :tu: :tu: and a helluva lot better than I could do; just seems a shame with the rest of the detail so well observed that the wings lack similar realism. If you would like I can dig out a diagram of a bee's wings showing typical venation for you. :)

Nice BZZ! They are very realistic looking. I got nailed in the lip not too long ago by a Yellow Jacket. Lip swelled up huge, so I had to kind of cringe when I saw these guys. Where's the honey?

those look too real for me. I still recall the day, when a nest of these got into the livingroom wall - from there, the livingroom itself. :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: For the image. :D Not so sure about the memory tho' :D :D
okay here are three finishing images
the first is of the bezz complete with two pair of wings, the second pair are faint and can be seen okay on some othe bees with open wings. This image was fully created in Zbrush 1.23b but then this render was done with 1.5 beta
The second image was put together in 1.5 with parts modelled in 1.23b then exported into photoshop to get the blur effect on the wings.
The final image is simply both the first two images together which creates the image that i originally set out to do.
A bit later today i will explain more of how i went about creating the bees. Thanks to Flycatcher for mailing me info on bees and explaining about the two pair of wings. ;) ;)

I like them all, but the 'head-on' view is truly great! ;)
What a wonderful lense the eye is when combined with imagination! Fine work on all of them, taxonomic accuracy or no!
:tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:  :)
Fine work Picsas, definiatly the bees knees. :tu: :tu: :tu:

Excellent final images. I think the final version of the original cluster of bees is the best, but the first of the two hovering bees is a very close second. The just visible blurry wings are brilliantly captured - they look exactly like a couple of digicam photos I've taken of bumblebees in flight. And looming at you straight out of the canvas like that, he appears both to be curious about the viewer, and to have some real attitude. Love it. :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:
