After seeing the results achievable with Zbrush2 I finally decided to make a move...

2 Weeks ago, we (the company I work for) bought 2 licenses (on my request, I was drooling all over the place) of the software for test purposes and to see if it would help optimize our pipeline... Finally, today, I had a chance to put my hands "in the mud" and try Zbrush2 properly for the first time. I immediately knew I shouldn't have waited for so long... I spent a bit more than half a day freeroaming through the basic functions and building my very first model starting from zsphere. I just let my hands wander instinctively, not knowing what I wanted to do, just pure fun...
I made a lot of mistakes when I laid down the initial topology and I miss a deeper knowledge of the software to be able to workaround the issues showing here (bad creasing in some areas) and a lot of functions are still very obscure to me. Moreover I lost the symmetry at some point in the process and after doing several smart resym, it seems that the hires mesh contour has become slightly imprecise (although you can't see it there, it's just a very high frequency noise) and every brush stroke I do on the mesh is now noisy thus making the whole thing impossible to work with.
Because of all this, after 5 hours of learning I decided to stop. I didn't get a chance to have a look at projection master yet, that's my next item on the list. I guess this big boy will never get polished or finished, but I had so much fun in a few hours that I don't care.

Since it seems to be a custom here to send your first work... Here you go! Just don't take it seriously, I know it's crappy (and I'm not even taking about the crazy anatomy  )

Such humility for such an amazingly wondeful "crappy"model..lol..that boggles my mind.
Keep it coming, welcome aboard, and Good luck picking the rest of Z2 appart. I must warn you though that it is HIGHLY addictive..if you don't know that already.

Cheers

Hey great work. Especially for your first time. Just learning myself. Besides for a few extra lumps and creases on the arms, the anatomy is excellent.

Keep 'em comming

wow, impressive, i'm learning z2 as well...the torso and arms look good, but what really intrigues me are the hands...even though I haven't attempted to model any hands in z2 yet, i've seemed to avoid them for some reason(I suppose since i'm trying to get heads "right" at the moment)...could you post some close ups of the hands?

Ditto Mike, we all very much want to produce 'crap' like this. ;) (Speaking of 'crap', his face looks like he is in the process of producing some. You have created a very interesting expression on his face.)

As for the faceting, turn off Quick Edit and turn up Tool :Display Properties :Draw Smoothness (DSmooth) to anything greater than zero. If necessary, also increase the Tool :Display Properties :Draw Resolution (DRes) to 8 or 16. What these settings do is allow the object to render with a very smooth surface even if the base model is very low-poly.

Ps
(http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=011985)
Cela permettra de le "PM" en direct

Thanks for the advice Jay, any tips and tricks will do fo the future. Does anyone know what I'm talking about (brush precision problem)? If so, is there a workaround ?

Thanks to all for your nice feedback. It's really encouraging. I'm working on another training piece right now... I'll post it if it turns out to be good.

Pilou : merci, je le contacte de ce pas.
