Well I finally decided to take the plunge and try 3D modelling.
I've been drawing and sketching in a 2D environment (paper) for years. So I've never used any modelling software before. I use Photoshop all the time but again only for my 2D artwork.
So you must excuse my "Trial-and-error" offering. Took me eight hours of clicking and then undoing to get this far!
I'd like to say, what a fantastic utility this is. I'll keep plugging away and hopefully y'all wont be too bored with the results as I go

Please excuse my ignorance in the terminology but here goes:
I built a basic "Stick-Man" using the Z-Spheres. Once I had managed to stumble on to them and the whole "parent" "Children" thingamy building an endoskeleton was pretty simple...although you have to keep flitting to and fro between the 3d view and the Z-Sphere view to make sure you aren't going astray!
I got to a point where I had all the joints and a 'shape' that I was happy with and knew there must be a way to "subdevide" the polygons...or at least I hoped that you didn't have to predetermine prior to the get-go:confused:
I devided the poly's and "sculpted" a little more, devided and scultped. The whole body map got to about 100,000 polygons and had a fairly recognisable shape. Curiousity about how to take advantage of the the different coloured "groupings" won-out and I fiddled around until I found the "Cntrl+Shift&Mouseclick" function to select only that colour. Then I focused on sculpting the top part of the face and then the lower part of the jaw. Between them alone there must be 200,000 poly's...so still a long way to go but getting there.
Many regards,
Darren...still playing around this...what fun!

hey Darrin, sounds like you are having fun.
You could save a few hairs and a few hours by downloading the Practical guide. It has step by step tutorials for all kinds of modelling and use of features of Z2. The link is in my signature.
It will help you from getting bored too quick;) and have you modelling like a champ in no time.
Also since you are used to drawing, you should give z2's 2.5d goodies a run for their money too.

Did a little more work on the face and jowl (which you can't -really- see from this angle:rolleyes: ) But this is way more rewarding than drawing...but not as much fun as pure sketching:p
I'll keep "chipping" away.

Thanks Aminuts...I'll check that out! But maybe not yet...I don't want to give myself an "excuse" to down tools...I'm easily enough distracted:lol:

after looking at the first pic i had a picture in my head of it haveing a bigger body... bigger chest.. bigger arm muscles...sorta like a smaller head in proportion to thebody, so it looks like the head id coming out of a great big body...im sure youre woking on it . keep up the good work..

No problem Vegan....for what little use it probably was. To be fair these observations of mine are simply those of someone seeing the application and using it for the first time!

I guess it's the whole head but in my "minds-eye" I knew I wanted sort of jaws akin to that on Sharks, you know really wide and powerfull. I've tried to fight -against- doing a small head on a giant body simply because I wanted a "character" rather than a behemoth...I had done a couple of quick random sketchs which I've sorta been using as a "guide"...I should say loose guide:)
Thank you for the feedback though, it's appreciated.

Not at all Vegan! I never took it that way at all! Sorry if I sounded offended but I'm not (Too thick skinned for that:lol: )
Please feel free to say what you like.

So...I did some more work this morning. Thought I'd take some snap shots of various angles and put them together in Photoshop.
This is as far as I've got.
