Hi there, I'm just wondering why some people model their details, going further than 6 or 7 subdivisions before going back to subd 0 to extract their displacement map ?? That puzzles me a bit.

Um, because that's the way it works? You have to be on subdivision level 1 before you can generate a map. Zbrush looks at the differences between the low rez and high rez mesh to make a map.
